So my new truck say's it should get 5w-20 oil. My very limited understanding is this is just to make fleet vehcles get slightly better milage, but I wonder if that is at a cost to how long the motor will last. Would I be better with 5W-30? Also in the aimsoil line are the additives the same in those two oil weights?

most of the newer fords require the 5w20. all of the modular motors and the small v-6's this is because of the lifters they use. The thinner oil is better in and case because it can get it tighter areas. I put 5w30 in my wife's old ford fuckass (focus) and the lifters clattered like crazy. use the recommended weight, they recommend it for a reason. I use moble1 in 5w20 for everything in my stable except the old diesel, it gets the delo stuff.

it doesn't have anything to do with fleed vehicles, all of the modular v-8s take that same weight, only the old design motors take a different weight (4.0 v6 takes 5w30, but that is still based on the 2.8 v6, just with added OHC)

Well something is up with Fords cause Amsoil is not giving a recommendations. Same with Diesels that I was looking at earier today. I think that it has to do with not enough testing? Would like me to call tech service and see what they have to say?
They do list 5W-20 but thats there 7,500 mile change interval.
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlm.aspx
However, being that your in a colder climbet I would go with there 0W-20.
http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/asm.aspx PLus you'll get the full 25,000 miles drain interval.
