Exnav wrote:Well fellas, the time finally came to suck it up and buy a new swingarm. I am done f_ckin' around with used pieces that I am trying to cobble together. It sucks to blow my build budget, but it's time to get this build moving again.
Hopefully I get this from the UPS man and can get back to taking pictures!
I did get my plumbing figured out with a little help from Danny. Just need a damn swingarm!!!!!!
Great news - Swingarm came via FedEx today.
Not so great news - Someone decided to drop the frame end on the concrete and make the bolt hole an OVAL.
You just gotta laugh at this point

well, you have plenty of swingarms now to make an extended one. infact if you have a messed up bolt hole one that will fit a '97 I might want it
good luck man!

I have one that has a bolt twisted off, halfway drilled out and for grins, has an easy out broke off in it. I would be happy to send your way if you really want it.

Got some more work done and thought I would post a pic. No problems getting the airbox boot to mate up. I varied from the instructions and found it easier to tighten the carb down and then bring in the airbox. I am going to change the plumbing because I don't like the looks of what I have and am going for more of an OE look. Seems to be a popular idea around here lately. Also noticed that there isn't much room for the throttle cable, but have an idea for a reroute. Still waiting on the latest swingarm, but this will give you an idea of where I am so far.

New swingarm is installed and rear wheel is actually under the bike finally.
Pipe and silencer are on. Rear brake reservoir is mounted just like the Shanman did his.
What's left...
Oil the filter
Fix plumbing to the new idea
Fill the fluids
Double check all fasteners
Start it up

Well it's completely assembled and ready to be fired. Here's the finished product.
Thanks to all that helped with answering questions and giving good advice. Big thanks to Bob for his help and having this site and thanks to Danny and Shanman for doing it before me and making it easy!

There was once a Greek philosopher ( from Florida) named Rhackis Denero-Jackis who made this memorable quote:
"Be weary of other sites encouraging you to do all the work yourself. It's not easy, and not for the everyday garage guy either."

For ANYONE with a limited amount of mechanical ability, the Gen 1 is a nice project to take on. Borrow a sawzall and a small grinder, basic metric wrenches and sockets that you need anyway and get after it. I've spent more time cleaning the frame and various pieces than getting the engine in the bike.
