if you have that kind of $$$ go for it, it comes with a frame, you should be able to put the rest of your stuff on, and convert the frame. the bike would be worth $$$ afterwards, an AWD cr500af I just hope the system could handle the 500 power

I agree, you should be very worried about how much more torque the CR500 can make over that of a 250cc four stroke. I guarentee you that his system has very little margin due to weight control. The good news, is that they have already developed a system that works on a 450, which is a better match power-wise.

i thought about this, thinking it would be a ultimate offroad bike. tweav, they do make a 250x kit, infact it was what they used for their prototypes. The specially coated drive shafts are telescopic and incorporate linear ball spline bearings. They are counter rotating to eliminate torque effect. They run the length of the fork to the front hub.

this thing would be great for really rocky rutted out ST. Whenevere the rear tire would start spinning the front would grab, I imagine it would take a lot of work out of it.

As I understand it, the shafts actually counter-rotate and thus eliminate the effect of torque-steer. The design has been seriously scrutinized and seems to be holding up pretty well.dannygraves wrote:I would think so since it looks like both sides spin the same direction, so it would pull the steering in the same direction.
I personally still like the hydraulically driven setup developed by Ohlins and Yamaha (several bikes of this configuration have competed in Paris-Dakkar) but understand that the cost is astronomical by comparison to the mechanical Christini design in smaller quantities (for each).

It doesnt torque steer.
There are two shafts down the front forks; one on either leg.
They turn in opposite directions to cancel out the rotational forces.
The front hub is driven at a reduced speed and free wheels as long as the back wheel has traction. Once the back wheel is spinning and you start to slow down the clutch in the front hub grabs and puts power down through the front wheel.
The november issue of Dirt Rider has a small write up on the 250f version.
Sounds like the reliability of the front hub still isnt spectacular, and the weight is still a down side.
It nearly doubles the price of a CRF 250.
I'd love to try it out.
Just think of how fun it could be to run TWO paddle tires in the sand!

I called them today. they said they have to think about if they'll do it or not . on top of it all it makes the fuel tank even a harder fit , because of the drive shaft. they said they want to have it before I put the 500 motor on it so their frame jig fits the motor mounts. Do you guys know how close the cr500 output shaft is to being in the same location as the crf250x's ,in relation to the to the swingarm?
