Prospective Engine purchase
Alright gentlemen. The Guy with the cherry '94 CR5 hasn't called me back on my offer so Ive been keeping my eyes out for an alternative purchase if he ends up declining my offer. Check out this motor on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CR ... dZViewItem
Tell me what you think. Granted it would need a kicker, coil, CDI, carb, pipe/silencer, This might be a solid motor to start with for my A/F conversion considering all the goodies and receipts it comes with.
Is anyone here selling this? Has anybody bid on it?

You would need to find out if the electronics are included with it.. coil cdi wiring harness blah blah blha... 90mm bore means its 1mm over already and you only have 1 or 2 cuts left before it needs a new cylinder..
My motor is setup almost identical to this one... and runs like a champ.. except for the broken case gaurd bolt LOL..

I figured the compression was a little high. There is a station near by that sells 100octane out of the pump, last year it was 5$ a gallon. I wonder what is has to be now....
ISBB, what kind of gas do you run? Still lookin' for the donor...
Joe with the '94 just won't let this bike go for much under 2k... He doesn't need the money, and is not one of those guys who will off it to get some quick cash. This bike was his baby. He just has to realize that what HE thinks it's worth and what it's ACTUALLY worth are two different things.

I looked at the ports on that motor and it has more meat in the intake than my cylinder. Just look at my avatar and you will see the difference. I run pump gas in my bike without any issues. Did Honda change all that between the years or is my bike heavily ported and I should be running race/high octane fuel?
I run anything over 110 Octane.. i have used VP, F&L and a brand called rocket fuel which is 111.. all have ran just fine.. I pay right around $6 bucks a gallon at the pump.. however motorsports and the industry is rather large in this area so its easy to find around here.Nomadic Cycle Racks wrote:I figured the compression was a little high. .040 off the head isn't too bad. that the same as the difference in the old and new head gaskets and brit said both of his '87 motors with a new gasket ran fine on pump gas. I have an '86 head with the newer style gasket and I run fine on 100 and have run 91 in a pinch and had to move the needle richer to not get a knock.
I still think you would get a lot more out of a complete bike. there were a lot of parts on my conversion that I took from the steelie, like coolant hoses, bolts, etc etc. having a complete roller is very convenient.

yeah, actually I see that seller selling a lot of stuff... stuff out of the same motor with different bogus hour amounts.
As I've said before, whenever buying a motor assume it is only a rebuildable core. that way you will be pleasantly surprised if it is it really good shape and not too disappointed when it needs a complete rebuild.

'91 CR500-SOLD 900$
-Left message for the '98.
Going to check out some 250's today. Might as well start looking for a good donor
Ya I've seen the post on your CRFX, what an absolute score! Wish I could find something like that. Ive been on the computer searching for a CR5 or 250, like a vulture for the past 2 weeks.

unless you want a drag racer, the ebay motor might not be a good idea. i know the guys at K&T that supposedly did the motor. they build drag bikes. theres a high probability it was set up mainly for sand drags. might be a little tough to trail ride it through the back yard, if you know what i meen
. email the seller and ask him for sure
