Choices - a Gen 3 (03CRF450) chassis or an 01 cr250R Gen 2
I bought an 03 CRF450 chassis complete for an AFC build then just ran accross a GEN 2 - 01' CR250 R complete bike for a SONG.
i would like opinions on a few things,
ease of conversion, and what would be the better end bike? and why !
I am 6'4"+ and 260 lbs terrible rider and honestly i have no need for this bike as the stock cr5 whoops my but easily but...i do have decent fab skills, some time and now EVERYTHING to do one so....why not.
opinions and justifcation plase!!

True but not as bad as you would think. Its more plastics and bullshit like that. I love my gen 2 and i have ridden a few newer Gen AFs. I cruise Ebay and Craigslist all the time and have always been able to find every part that i needed. Rims front and back can switch right over from the newer gens and 4 strokes as well. I fitted a gen 3 dezert tank with only light modification to the bottom which i assume would be necessary to clear the plug anyways, so now I run gen 3 shrouds. If you can get the gen 2 roller for cheap cheap i would do it.gregrobo wrote:the only problem with the 01 cr is the limited stock and aftermarket parts

I like my gen2 as well - because thats what I have. But I did ride my kids 04 CR250 - and it does handle better. I really wanna try a Gen3 500 to see the differences. One note freeride - Neither the Gen2 desert or stock tank required any modifications on my conversion.
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...
what are the differences between the GEN 3 cr250 frame and the 03 CRF450 GEN 3 frame? i know the head tube needs shortened but its my basic understanding that the GEN3 CR250 frame is the easiest (and best??) conversion.
in for a penny in for a pound so I am doing the GEN e 450 swap, just curious about diferennces on the completed project. same weight? same specs on critical dimensions? etc...
thanks Spomey
