Need help selecting correct chain length

Post by Exnav »

I am wondering if a 520X114 is the correct chain for my hybrid Gen1 conversion? I think it is, but want some input before I purchase.

Gearing will be 14/49 to begin with.

I'm running 14/47 on my gen-1 with the adjustment all the way out and when I run 14/49 I just pull the adjustment in about halfway. when I get home I will count the number of links I removed, but 114 sounds about right. I always just buy a 120, then break it down, that way if I want to run a huge rear sprocket for crazy ST stuff, all I need to do is buy a $3 matching masterlink. Plus I got my new in box DID gold x-ring 120link on ebay for like $40. easier to find a 120 length and break it down than hunt around for the right length.

Ditto I usually go ahead and buy the spare masterlink from the getgo and attach it to my clutch cable as a spare. All my bikes have a spare masterlink attached to the clutch cable.

Brit wants us all to send him our cutoff's ( 3 to 4 links per person). He figures he can get a free chain that way...

LOL, small gold, grey, black, red, etc. sections, some o-ring, some x-ring, some no ring... it would be the holiday chain :D :D
