not trying to steer you away, but those cr 250s are a bitch to jet and seem to always have the honda bog.....
a 05+ yz 250 is better than the cr in EVERY way (except looks) from power to suspension, to radiators that dont get squashed first time it gets layed over

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.
4stroke=dead fish

The 05+ Cr250 year range you should be looking for. 02-04 have many subtle differences that make the 05+ better... Everything from chassis bits as small as a wider rear shock bottom bearing, to completely different cylinder and top end and different crank (no tin cans).
02,03,04 all have different cylinders but are interchangeable. A 2005+ cylinder (complete with head and powervalves)can be put onto an older bottom end, but the pipes are different too.
The cheap/quick fix for jetting is a JD kit, install and it's better... I did this years ago and never messed with it again (yet).
The "ultimate" fix is ditch the carb for a Keihin PWK. The Yz250 PWK has the Tps sensor, but a off the shelf PWK will work apparently and just leave the tps unplugged. You need a short body PWK, with the screwed down top, the screw cap top is the long body (the 05+ uses short body, 02-04 will need long body)
Anyways... My offroad enduro and cross country race bike is an 06 Cr250 and I love it with just some playing around. I will eventually be adding a PWK.
Not sure where you are located, but I do actually have an 05 CR250 for sale, but I'm in Ontario Canada.
Anyways hope this helps out a lil

you crack me up. i just bought a 06yz250 (with sss suspension) and fully built it cause i heard how great of a bike it is and ended up getting rid of my 2002 cr250.... and then (a week later) i decided that my cr500 swapped trx250r was not for me, i dont do quads.... so i pulled the built cr500 motor out of the quad and now im dying.....DYING to do a gen 3 cr500af. great minds think alike huh2strokeforever wrote:not trying to steer you away, but those cr 250s are a bitch to jet and seem to always have the honda bog.....
