an Ah shit moment
Ya ever have one of those moments? Here's mine from last week.
piston suggestions anyone?
Weisco
Vertex
Wossner
Pro X
Leaning towards Vertex at the momment.
Does Cometic offer a complete gasket kit which includes the foam coated aluminum base gasket?
Does it come with seals?
Is there a bearing kit or do I need to peice it out?
Pretty sure it had a weisco in it but it's all on me not the piston's fault.
Piston stuck , after it cooled a bit, it freed up but rings stuck, no compression. after completely cooled was able to start and ride it back a couple miles to camp with the choke on

i'd try a new 1
Alot of blokes down here a HPC coating there pistons & valves in a for stroke capacity ... i wonder if that has any merit in a 2stroke aplication?

exact thing happened to me. was like someone hit the kill switch. lost all compression. fair amount of compression came back after 2hrs or so. kept riding rest of the day with 2 clicks bigger main . some video around here of it. still ran pretty good i thought. hondas some tuff motors for sure. seemed to have extra vibes but maybe it was my imagination. that sand will get ya if you aint paying attention . loads a motor like nobodys business
dont go thinking a cast slug will keep this from happening again. vertex would die just as fast in the same scenario

exact same words i used a couple of weeks ago but mine turned out to be a ring letting go and fucking the bore, i've gone the vertex but had the piston ceramic coated and some really slippery shit put on the skirts this time just for giggles.
if there's one thing dad likes more than serenity… it's a two stroke engine on full throttle!

vertex if you aren't planning any major power adders (like nitrous). yes, cometic makes a gasket set. Only go OEM on bearings and seals, there is no kit, just find what you need on the partsfiche and order those numbers.
BTW, where was that?

Yes, it's all apart, stupidity killed it not the fault of the piston.
Somehow when I went to drain the coolant for disassembly all that came out was a couple ounces of thick coolant, the bike has not normally gone through much coolant but this time, maybe a leaky head gasket.
Smeared piston on both sides of the exhaust port. the plan is to do a complete bearings and seals, have a local shop check out the crank.
bore and Vertex piston.
An overflow bottle is definately going to be an addition

the cometic head gasket is like oem, with a larger bore for oversizes

So Cometic head and base gaskets, any issues with aftermarket crankcase gaskets? the big Q is what about the after market seals?AlisoBob wrote:This site has a long history of failed aftermarket gaskets.
The only set up to go with is OEM, with the Cometic base gasket.
The Cometic headgasket is ok to swap for OEM too.

moose racing, $20 for seals is about 1/2 the price from service honda, pretty sure honda is not making their own but I really don't want to smoke a motor to save $20, just that all those $20 add up quick, I can see this hitting $400 - $500, not good.

!!!! I cannot say this too many times, I've been there and yes, saving $30 on my main bearings cost me $200 after 2 rides and saving $25 in seals cost me having to do a whole reseal and havign to re-purchase all haskets, fluids, etc. pay the extra to go oem to untimately save money and time.
