Wiesco pouch

Post by Tharrell »

What's the reason for the little black pouch Wiesco puts their pistons in lately?
Based on prices, I already knew they were proud of them.
They package them up like a bottle of Crown Royal for some reason.
The last pistons purchased for a Banshee and YZ250 were like this.

Well the fact that you have to modify (drill) many (except the new ones) of the pistons as soon as you buy them does not instil much confidence in me as to the quality of the product. My opinion is if the damn things need to be drilled then drill them before charging $200.00 for them - I guess they finally figured that one out.

I didn't think about that - may have been all the beer in me last night. Is it the difference in cast versus forged (expansion) that causes one to require oil holes for the bridge and the other (Vertex / OEM) not?

Personally I DO NOT like ONE Ring.

And the only holes in a piston should be for the wrist pin.

I'm on the second Wiesco with no holes for the bridge.

Since I haven't been riding tracks and racing much this past year I'm going to run this top end a forth year, til next June. Normally been doing them every third year.

Now you guys got me wondering if I'll be able to find a holeless piston. Hmm.....

Me too, I'm just about to finally do a re-bore, and want to hoik the Exhaust Bridge, as the crack in the alloy bridge backing, is Just showing into the sleeve.

Something to think of - I wonder if you have more fuel usage with the holes in the piston?

I'd sure think that a piston with 'bridge holes', would not be a great thing, without a bridge.

On 500s, years ago, I never drilled holes in Wisecos, just clearanced the bridge a tad more than the recommendations. Then just carefully ran the pistons in. I never had problems, even with freezing Enduro cold starts, but, I'd come across blokes that had seizures from not doing lube holes on their Wisecos.

I've never had a problem with Wisecos, and was recently given one of the new coated , 1mm OS pistons. It's going to be having some lathe / mill / dremel time to lessen it's 'boat anchor' status............
