Duramax Tranny Cooler
Duramax Tranny Cooler
Sometimes I get bored, and do shit just to do it. My tranny never really ran hot, but its going to be warm going to Pismo later this week, so I thru down for a new cooler.
Its made by Earls, P/N 82510ERL
Its 2x as big with 3x the area of the stock cooler.
It took half way home towing the toyhaul to even get the needle of the peg.
Got everything to make the brackets at Home Depot. Nothin' fancy.
Not visible are the washers sitting between the top of the cooler and the bottom of the aluminum mounting plate. Without them the aluminum bows....
Seems to have droped 35 degrees off the tranny temps.
It uses all the OEM fittings and hoses... super easy.
My truck is a 2005 LLY, I think it will fit the earlier trucks, but in 2006 the whole cooler stack looks different.

I put an F250 superduty cooler on mine the week I got it, between that and the race trans valve body im sure thats why my trans is still perfect after 140,000 very abusive miles
Heat and slippage is what causes trannys to take a shit, no matter the HP level. Eliminate the slippage with a valve body and deal with the heat with a big cooler and your golden.

very cool. I will have to see what my tranny temps look like during the tow out there. I just changed out my tune for the more tow friendly one with a 55mph TC lockup if I keep it in lock up most of the time that should really help the temps. When I was towing the trailer home from kingman I was running my race tune with 45 mph lockup and my EGTs would get a little wild when I got stuck in traffic below 50 mph but the trans temps didn't blink.
