New Maico

Post by Tharrell »

I picked this up yesterday for restoration.
I'm trying to identify it for sure but I do know it's a 250 frame and a 400 engine.
Anybody with some Maico experience please chime in.

Yeah, I've always wanted one too since watching Ake, Gerritt and Adolph back in the day.
I did find out it's a 75 MC250 frame that's been modded like a 1976 AW model and the engine is a 1975 400/4 speed.
I'm not gonna touch it until I get the 85 CR500 done.

Hey, I've driven 26 hours to get bikes before. this one was only 15.
Plus there are guys in the vintage network moving bikes around all the time.
Sometimes I get lucky and can hitch a ride.
The 495 KTM is supposed to be wicked fast.

I came within a hair's breath of buying a CZ380 a couple of years ago here in Arkansas. I bid up to $300, and it went for $500 if I remember right. Bike was all there and didn't look bad. Engine was free but hadn't been started in several years.

That was the 26 hour round trip to Ohio earlier this year.
I picked up a 1971 CZ380 with a spare engine.
It's in the basement with a couple of other projects.
My buddy Sam has a couple of CZ's including the uber rare 125 and Falta 250.
He says the Falta is like a jap bike, high revving, not typical CZ.
