HELP!!! Head rotation?

Post by tadiv »

OK, bolting the engine back into the frame, all the bolts are tight except the head stay ones. The 2 metal plates don’t line up with the head. It looks almost like the head is rotated?

Any help as I am in a hurry to get this finished up!

I am kinda hoping I can just loosen the head bolts and align it then tighten them back up (new top end, would like to not have to buy another metal gasket)

Wooooooo.... nelly, these things are part aircraft.

Put a washer or two in the gap.

You could loosen the head and retorque it, That would hurt the gasket any.

You got dual shocks on that bay boy?

Reclocking the head will not take that clearance up... Shim it.

Is this all the same parts as before, and it fit correctly, to the best of your memory?

...weird.

Na, just 2 pictures in photoshop so you could see both sides. I loosened up all the other mounting bolts, and then I could line it up. I then made everything snug before torquing to spec. Now it is 100%! I must have just gotten ahead of myself and had the engine cocked when I tourqued the 1st bolt.

Thanks for the help!

Loosen all of the other motor mounts up including the swing arm bolt.
Maybe even check and see if the holes in the motor are wallowed out.
There's definately some thing goofy going on slow down and recheck
some things you should not have to shim it at all.........

Looks like we were typing at the same time, but you were right, just needed to slow down a bit.

Thanks!

yeah, thats why I always get all the bolts in place, then torque them all down slowly in a pattern. I had somethign similar happen on my old 125 a long time ago.
