Used commercial mower advice
My dad needs a new mower, hes got 12 acres that hes gotta keep tidy and hes going through mowers roughly every 3 years.
It need to be a decent sized commercial jobbie with a minimum 48" cut and preferably diesel.
He wants to be under 5k and something that will last awhile, it also needs to bag.
At the moment hes got a twin cyl john deer 48" that has been a complete pile of shit since the day he got it, the $900 home ride on is being used more 'cos the deer is constantly at the dealership.
I dont know shit about mowers and need some help....

ExMark or GrassHopper make GOOD stuff. All of the commercial guys around here use either of those, and they are tough equipment. And employees beat the shit out of that kind of equipment

I'm a lawn guy and I use Bob Cat, have 3 of them.
Get a 61 and a hopper for the back called a Peco.
Surely he's only gonna bag the area nearest the home, that's a lot of grass to bag.
Also, Cub Cadet Commercial is good. I have 2 of those.
I also have Scags.
You don't really need a diesel, small engine technology has come a long way.
Even Briggs has some great engines now.
I use Kawasaki and Kohler engines on all of my mowers.
It all depends on what is sold in your area.
Most commercial mowers are on a level playing field, except JD.
You'll pay thru the nose for anything with JD on it.

He has to bag as its all a campsite with hookups, kids playing on wet grass clippings aint good.
He wants a diesel just for the cost of running it.
The nearest dealer to his is john deere but like I said before the one he has sucks.

Kubota diesel with a Peco on the back.
The reason I said Kubota, they have a lot of experience with Diesels whereas
a mower shop is a bit iffy unless it's a bigtime shop.
Or, if you can swallow all the shit JD dishes out go JD.
I just don't like JD.
Any mower with a diesel is gonna cost though.
Count on 10k minimum, 15k or better is more like it.
The Peco is gonna cost $2500.

You'll wear a gas mower out in a year with that kind of mowing.
Well, maybe 2 years.
If your dad is in Britain, look into a Ransomes.
http://www.jacobsen.com/europe?country=100
They do have diesels particularly in Britain.
Sounds like you need a wide area mower.
How about a herd of goats?
or, uh, sheep?
16.5 acres per hour.
