Al's Run-a-Way Engine
So Al has a 86' motor in a Gen 1 chassis, and fires it up the other day after a long sit.
Thing fires first kick, and immediatly revs to 4,000 rpm. No worries, Al will push the kill button to stop it.
Nope, button does nothing. So Al rips the wires out of the damm thing and tries to ground them... still reving...
So he jacks the throttle around a few times, nothing.
So in desperation, he yanks off the plug wire, nearly electrocutes himself......but the revving contuines on.
THIS THING IS POSSES BY THE DEVIL!!!!
He finally lays the thing over on its side, and turns the garden hose on it ( Its the onlt thing he could think of ) and the bike finally quits.
I'm over there about 20 minutes after it happened. Al has the crank seals popped out by then, they look ok.
So, WTF was the air inlet, the fuel source, and the ignition source for this.
The bike has sat since July, and was ice cold when all this went down. Ice cold bikes dont glow plug?
If it wasent Al, I'd say this was all B.S.
Crazy shit.........

Fuel pooled in the crankcase while sitting, bit of carbon in the head-piston-plug glowing and a slight airleak while under big vaccum.
I had a YZ490 that ran away on me once, I fired her up and turned off the gas to drain the float bowl, well she ran lean and started revving. Nothing would stop it, kill switch did nothing. Eventually after panicking I jammed on the rear brake and smashed it into gear. That motor had no air leaks and ran fine.
On another note what the fuk is the deal with squirting it with a garden hose????????

Yep. happened to me before too. the thing "diesels". if it doesnt do it as soon as you start the motor, it wont do it.
solution? bog the motor down.......pull the plug wire off, hop on it and shift through the gears as fast as you can......when you get to 2nd-3rd, as soon as you shift, grab the rear brake.

I just had my two stroke snowblower do a runaway. There was water in the carb and it blocked the jet from getting fuel and next thing I knew it was revving up real high until I shook the unit which I figure moved the water enough to get fuel into the jet and it idled down long enough to be able to kill the ignition. Pull the bottom off the carb and sure enough a big fat glob of water sitting in the fuel pickup area.
Something similar happened to me when I put a really high compression head on my CR250R, at the same time I put VF3 reeds and oxygenated fuel in the tank and hadn't touched the jets. It started cold and started to rev like crazy. Going up on the pilot jet cured it.
Did Al check the air screw after all this?

a strong ignition will jump over an inch to the spark plug, maybe the plug cap wasnt far enough enough away, ya i had it happen to my cr 80, and 125 wondering wtf that buzzing noise was....
dont believe me try it with a few bikes
never tried it on the 500 tho
i think plynn41 got it right, real lean pilot, or clogged

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.
