Jetting Database

I know there are several very informative threads on jetting in this forum, but I thought it may be a good idea to have a thread where we share our jetting in our particular bikes as well as our riding conditions and type of riding we typically do. I realize there are lots of variables that contribute to proper jetting, but this info should help some people to establish a good place to start.

I own two different CR5s, but since the '86 is in the process of being restored I'll share the info on my '97. This time of year I mainly ride trails with some riding on rural roads. Come spring this bike may be turned into a motard so jetting will be changed accordingly.

PJ27P carb
FMF Gnarly pipe and silencer
Stock porting
Castor 927 at 32:1 with 91-93 pump gas
Elevation is sea level to under 2000ft.

Air screw at 1.5 turns out
JD jetting blue needle on clip 3
55 pilot jet
175 main jet

Going to try clip 4 to richen up 1/4 to 1/2 throttle in this colder weather (typical northeaster PA/north Jersey winter weather).

10 different people with 10 different setups in 10 different goegraphic locations with 10 different engine mods with 3 different pipes with 10 different kinds of fuel...... and they all think their shit is correct. remeber the dude who suggested using a 150 main

?? thats just bad information if you ask me. maybe it would work for him but it would seize at any place ive ever riden. dont need new guys following that sort of advice. im sure your intensions are good but i dont see the point to this thread. service book or owners manual is better source for info if you ask me. seems more logical than following what some guy in newyork is doing in december at 600' on dirtroads with fmf and and some kind of cheap gas at god only knows what premix ratio with walmart oil.

Well, if we have 50 guys with mains ranging from 165-175 and one dude says 150, I think a little common sense should come into play. Like I said, we know lots of things contribute to proper jetting. I just thought having a database could be a useful tool.

there is a data base right in the owners manual

. yours is very close to what the book says, which is to be expected. guess i dont understand what your intensions were

The manual assumes a stock bike. How many bikes are truly stock now?

You've made your point, but what's it hurt sharing your jetting?

We've gone 5 years without a "data-base"... I dont see any reason to start one now.

Like Clyde said.... buy a manual.

nobody is saying stfu and im sure you just are trying to help poeple. when i think of database heres what comes to mind: a collection of info from people who may or may not know their head from ass when it comes to tuning a bike. i would be alittle skeptical to follow john henrys jetting advice because he may have spooge pouring out his pipe. what good does that info do anybody ? owners manual is solid info that will be real close for most people. if your following the book and it still aint running good then hopefully the person has enough common sense to make the correct adjustments.

If I had spooge pouring out my pipe, fouled plugs, couldn't get my shit to idle worth a damn and/or melted pistons, I sure as he'll wouldn't be inclined to offer my tuning advice on the internet. But that's just me...

Personally, my silencer is clean, bikes will idle all day long without soaking plugs and I never melted a piston. Just trying to help. That's what these forums are for. If the powers that be don't like the idea of sharing jetting, so be it. No harm in suggesting it.

Means nothing to me as I don't know who brit is.

That said jetting databases have worked on at least one other site.

Its all good, guys. I made a suggestion, that's all. If you're not into it, whatever floats your boat. I'm over it.
