01 CR500 Clutch slipping in 5th gear

Post by SDRIDER619 »

Hi...

So i just had the folling done to my bike.
*New Top End Installed
*New Clutch installed
*New shift fork
*New 4th and 5th gears installed

My problem is that the bike runs bitchin in 1st through 4th gear no problems, but when i shift into 5th gear it acts like the clutch is slipping a little bit. it still rides but is jerks back and forth and the clutch lever goes in and out on its own....? now it only does this in 5th gear. runs completely normal in all other gears!!

any thoughts?

I'd say something was wrong with the assembly. New 4th/5th gears? Why? jerking only in one gear doenst sound like clutch to me...
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

the splines inbetween 4th and 5th got stripped on the old gears so i had them changed out. the clutch levers actually moves in and out on its own when in 5th so i assumed it was gear/clutch related

Agreed. The clutch is simply reacting to the variable torque load the transmission is supplying. Problem is in the tranny.

Sorry, I'd be in over my head. I'll bet someone on here knows though.

So the splines on those two gears were ruined but the splines on the
gear shaft were not damaged? If you put new gears on damaged
shafts, the gear itself could slip causing the exact effect you are
experiencing.

Or, it could have been re-assembled wrong between the gear and the
shift fork install as was pointed out earlier. I wouldn't recommend
riding the bike anymore until you get it figured out, you may be making
a bigger more expensive mess everytime you shift into fifth.
