Removing the cooling fittings on the CR500 cylinder head

Ok, I know a bunch of you have removed the two straight fittings out of the CR500 head. Installing elbows is necessary on some conversions for gas tank clearance.


My question: How the hell did you get those two straight fittings out?

Are they threaded in? I got one to turn a few degrees with a socket and rachet, but it was a real bitch. Then socket slipped and effed up the hex head on the fitting.

Anyone have a picture of one removed?

A Impact will buzz them right out. Add a little heat if needed.

the tread has sealer, heat the head, not the fitting til it burns out, then they'll come.
they're junk, no fitting youll find is the same thread tho either.

6 point socket is a must.

Some sockets "flare" at the end, so you dont get a full bite on the hex.



I take the sockets to the belt sander, so the socket gets 100% bite.

Another bloke on CR500riders did a set up with banjo fittings, and had banjo bolts made up.

He posted that the thread was 17.5mm O.D. x 1mm thread pitch in the head.

A useful thing to know.

Banjo Bolts dont flow for shit, given their size.

These better be some HUGE fukn' fittings.

I'm guessing that bike hasent run yet...

I don't give a stuff about banjo bolts - it's the thread O.D and pitch that I found useful.

I removed the outlets out of my head and re tapped the threads
they are 18x1.0 threads. Had to make a tap up on the lathe as they want $70
for one from the shop

Heat and impact gun and they finally gave.

Hopefully I'll have my new fitting welded on this week.

I can't wait to start my bike!
