Bike set up question 500

Post by Ryanjohnson86 »

Ok so I'm building my own 500af I will post pics when I get further in the build...

2003 cr250 donor bike
1997 cr500 motor
fmf gnarly pipe
fmf silencer
low boy pegs
sdg tall seat

I'm 6ft 5inch 350lbs( I try and hold it Down for the fatties!)
I want some help on this set up.
I want to run a bto 20mm offset triple clamp with sub mount dampner(scotts), 20 inch front, 18 inch rear( I know this combo has been done) but nobody ever posted how well or how bad it worked. Suspension will be setup as close to my weight as possible, I'm going to run those sweet flexx bars( anyone use them?). I want to put a hydro clutch on it but is it worth it? Also I'm gong to trim down the fmf silencer.
Any thing else you can suggest to make this a tits bike I would like to hear it.
Good or bad post it I want some advice on how to go about it. Remember I'm a big man. Not the average sized rider.

Thanks
TiNY

I'm 6' 6"

I like lowered pegs, stock seat, and the Windham RM Mid bars.

Their the tallest, with the least sweep that I found.

If you get the Flexx, get the tall "Quad" style bar. Their tall with minimal sweep too.

Yeah I run pastrana fmx pro tapers. But I like the design and theory of the flex bars. I'm going to sub mount the damper so height isn't an issue for me as of now. You like the stock seat better ay? What are the bennies of the tall seat. Everyone tells me ur a big guy get a tall seat but no one can tell me why. The only reAson I was going to give it a shot is because I have a huge knee problem and when I sit I have issues geting to my break cuz I have to bend it so far. I figure and this is just a theory, th taller seat would make my leg be less bent?? I can't wait to try the lowboy pegs. I hear nothing but good things about it.

Bob. You don't have issues with being hunched over at all?

There were too tall when coupled with the Scotts damper "Low" style mount, that rasies the bars to allow the stabilizer to slide under them.

The bars are cool.... hard to fit barkbusters to them though.

just pmed you about bars, I got some flex bars. Tall seat has got to help those bad knees not bend as much. the new Acerbis seats are hard as nails, like a KTM seat, they are spendy, oh gen 3, not sure if they are for smokers.

Your on the right site.
Compared with Bob, Jay Lewis, Pecker, Solid Bro...
About average.

I go 6'1", 210 lbs, I' feel like a shrimp around em.
Dem boys is biggggggg.....

FWIW, the SDG tall seat is not much taller than stock.
I think a better choice would be to build your own with Guts Racing foam.

The only thing taller on the sdg seat is the middle right? I can prolly make my own seat but I don't think I could carve the foam very well. It would be a hack job for sure!

@ 140 lbs i dont even exist then... better power to weight that way
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

Real world measurements.

SDG Tall seat:
Straight up from the center of the pegs it measures 1/2" diff.
Seems to carry the same 1/2" to the rear.

IMS low pegs measure 3/8" diff from swing arm pivot down.

I made the most incredible seat to replace the couch seat my skidoo snowmobile came with. By the fourth seat I have it down to science. Get two seat foams and hack them to the general shape with a wood hack saw and glue them together with shoe goo. I know your rolling your eyes but here is where inspiration hit me. Use a grinder like my dewalt 4 1/2"! I could shave millimeters or large amounts by pressure with the grinder.

Makes one heck of a mess so hopefully you have an air compressor for clean up.
