Are you saying, remove the steel sleave, and just run it like that with a nikasil plating?

For some reason I'm thinking thats not gonna work to well. I would think it would trow your port timing off...a lot. not to mention, where are you gonna get a big enough piston to fill the hole?

i dont know if the aluminum on the jug is thick enough to do that, but ya thats the idea
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

from what I understand, that cannot be done because the cast sleeve has ridges out the outside and is cast into the jug and yeas, it would totally mess up port timing and there would be no skirt support out the bottom.

Yup, the jug is poured around the stock sleeve during manufacture, and those lugs " lock " it in place.

Only on a motor that was ported by Graves...

Lower side wall drag would only boost RPM potential...

LOL, no, really, the exhaust port faces down and narrows, the more you cut the lower and narrower it will get, same with the transfers.

I resently put a set of wiseco's in my arctic cat 900 powered quad and they are what I believe the new cr500 are going to be.

Basicly the whole piston after forging and the ring grooves are cut, gets a coating that seams to be anodized like.
Then the piston is machined so all the coating is gone on the sides of the piston
But the ring grooves, bottom inside of the piston and top dome of the piston is coated.

The rings are also new they are a semi keystone as they are calling them.

like this ? been available for quit some time. 89mm, same rings, pin, skirt length as honda. pin is near exactly 5mm higher. totally eliminate the need for spacer plate in 144 rod/short case applications. pin boss area needs machined slightly wider depending how much side play you prefer on the bearing, or run the slightly narrower jetski bearing and be almost no machining required. plug and play other than that. quit a bit flatter dome also.. dont know if thats good or bad . not sure if a cutout could be done or not ?? be cool to see one of you blokes give it a go  . weighs 388g

I dont think thats a "coating". Most likely its what the alloy comes out looking like wherever it isnt machined...
