Yet another Aussie!
Yet another Aussie!
Hey Guys.
Just thought I should pop in and introduce myself.
I currently don't own a dirtbike but have always wanted a CR500 so thought I should get on here and learn as much as I can. I do own a 2009 R1 which is currently up for sale if anyone is interested.
Once this is gone, a nice CR500E is high on my wish list ( if I can find one that is relatively unmolested and for sale), although after seeing the road registered AFs in Shaggys thread, I could defintely see myself on one of these as well. Either way I want a bike that I can register.
Looks like there is plenty of info on building your own AF on here as well, but for a newbie it is all a little bit confusing, so I will have to keep reading to get my head around what the differences are between a Gen1 and Gen 2,3,4,etc are, or which frame is best suited for a build up loke this. This may be another option, although I haven't looked into how to go about getting something like this egistered in QLD yet.
Perhaps I am better leaving to guys like Shaggy!
Cheers,
Craig

Lovely family you've got there....now your R1 is worth fuck all so strip all the plastics off & sell them on E-bay, get a set of cheap race glass...$600 will see you done there...ask your local panel beater if he'll paint your race fairings for about $200-300, most will, chose either white, satin or mat black, i can asure you these 3 colors are all the go for a clean looking track bike & they look tuff...
Now you have a track bike find Formula Extream on the net..Au,
advertise it for about $2500-2000 dollars cheaper then a registered bike with the note in the blurb, "can be registered-not a stat dec write off.
You'll sell your plastics for way more then you think & she's gone with no headache......

Guys, thanks for the welcome.
Turbo, I saw you were on here mate and will go and check your facebook page at some stage. I dont have a facebook membership but my wife does.
Asteroid, interesting way to do it mate and I suppose it could work in theory.
The only problem is that there are no track days or track day junkies within a days drive of me ( no tracks either for that matter), so if I sell the OEM fairing on ebay and then cant move the bike as a track bike, I am stuck with a track bike 1000klm from the nearest place that I can ride it! Lol

Thanks mate. Its just gone 1 year old. Keepng it is definitely an option, as I love getting out on it. It goes and sounds really good with the Leo Vince mufflers!
I just am not getting as much use out of it as I was, now that bub number 2 has arrived. I hate to see an almost new bike sitting there unused. It just doesn't seem right and I can see it sitting there becoming a little less valueable each day. If I keep it long enough that will change eventually I suppose.
