i'll port that bike and add torque, lower the rpm its working in + broaden the peaks for smooth delivery. It'll not change the fuel economy of the bike, and will be reversable

Ah here goes DG, defending the thumper. Ya I know its all new (and WAS shiny), nothing wrong with it - and with your string of luck you had buying used crap, I fully understand. But you said it yourself - you're tired of the 500....or at least yours. I rode the KXF, along with other 450s. Same flat power band (yaaawwwnn). Good traction though - I'll give you that. But its not for me. I love the 2 stroke power band. And a well-tuned 500 is just the epitome of it all IMO.
But ya, x2 on the Rotella. Good, cheap stuff!
And the DGN needle is the hot ticket! called the "magic" needle IIRC.
Kdizzle, definitely ride one first before shelling out $$ for a 4-poke.

The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

The kawi is perfect for a big guy, is it tall and it comfy for 6ft+ guys, the power is the best of the 450s, I think the ktm had like 1 more hp, but less torque. I flat out love the bike. PM me with what you really want to know, I don't want to plug up this thread with more thumper talk
BTW, count on buying a TM designs slide and glide kit if you get it and the hammerhead +15 shifter helped shifting for me.

I frequently head to vegas with the wife to guzzle alcohol and gamble, so i just might take you up on that!dannygraves wrote:btw, kdizzle, if you ever make a trip out to vegas, you could ride a kawi, yami, suzi and honda side by side
The most modern thumper i have ridden was a 07 YZF 450 and it left somthing to be desired in the midrange. I love the overrev and traction as metioned. I hear the new bikes are much more powerfull.
Sorry to pollute this thread with thumpertalk!
Nice bike to the original poster! port and polishing will extend that powerband quite a bit. I went with GSS but im sure others can do a good job as well.

excellent tip for dune riders. find the point where it wont clean out then go backwards 1 or 2 sizesdannygraves wrote: keep fatening the main until it blubbers and back it off 1 size, that is the secret to not seizing while WOT from a lean condition.

A plug that dark is giving up alot of power.
Power = Heat
Heat = Piston growth
Set the piston clearence for maximum power, not rich mixtures and no power.
After chopping the engine after a 800' run, that plug should be nearly white.
That plug looks like the motor was idling for 10 minutes..... with the choke on.
Roosty, ever see a black plug like that after a 30 lap feature????

The pipe being that blue is pretty lean. If you run Rotella I recomend you change it VERY often. I was reading some info about guys who sent Rotella off to the oil analyzer companies after only a couple hours in a modern thumper and the results showed huge loss in viscosity. Granted the trans of a 500 is less abuse full than a thumpers but still, a word of caution.
BTW Dizzle, a few of my best MX riding buddies are in the 260+ pound range and flog 450's around the MX tracks here in Vegas (2400 feet) without any issue. The smooth controllable power makes the bike feel slow but the lap times tell the opposite. The explosive powerband of a 500 by comparison can get you hurt much easier! =)

I figured out what my problem is, but not exactly what is causing it... I poped the clutch cover to look at it and when I press the clutch the pressure plate opens on a angle!!!!!!!!!!!! it opens like a friken clam. So i changed the springs around and changed the clutch rod around and it seems better but its still a little cockeyed??? either the springs are all difrent tensions, the clutch rod is bent, the clutch rod bearing was machined by a retard, or the pressure plate is crooked, as soon i can ride it I will post if its any better
I just figured out that i always ran "energy conserving" oil in my 125 no clutch problems ever but still now I know to make sure i dont
if anyone has a complete 250 ignition 04 or newer pm me im looking
roosty any chances that you have dyno sheets from the same day and bike for your porting, and stock, I might be interested. does your porting make less power at the higher rpms than stock? what i really want is more mid top i am even considering the cpi pipe even though it looses torque 5.5 hp is a pretty big chunk 10% to be exact
I am running 927 @ 40-1 so i have a little extra lean protection
btw i am going with type f atf, it dosent com in energy conserving, and if it keeps brits bike alive its good enough for me

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

I used to use type F in my 125 back in the day, it helped with the clutch and some other trans issues, but it doesn't offer any cushion for the gears.
I would be on the phone with AJ like a motherfucker if I spent 12k and my clutch opened up like a clam. I'd bet the springs are mismatched. The t/o wouldn't have THAT much of an effect and if the rod were bent it wouldn't fit back in the shaft. I'd get on the phone and get a set of springs and t/o sent ASAP and free of charge!

SH gets their carbs from CPW, when you call to get your clutch springs and throw out bearing, you should see if they can get you a DGN so you only have to deal with Canada BS customs for 1 box.

bob ill admit every once in a while you say something with some validity to it. the post above isnt one of the brighter things youve said. run your plug white on this hill and youll be getting towed back to camp for a new topend and scorched rod bearing, probly a few guys on this or the other site to comfirm thatAlisoBob wrote:A plug that dark is giving up alot of power.

The guys on the site who ACTUALLLY HILLCLIMB and are competitive at it will laugh your black plug off the hill.100hp honda wrote:..probly a few guys on this or the other site to comfirm that.
Your such a wanna' be Clyde.
Glen can run his CR500's on nitromethane, making crazy power without squeeking them, and your worried about a squeeking one when running it blubbering rich..... all the while questioning Glen's machine work.
I think your the one who should be questioning the abilities of their machine work.
As for my bike overheating at Glamis that day... never found the cause. I thought the water pump drive gear failed... Stripped the bike down, nope.. gear fine. Put it all back together, been fine ever since. The S/H ignition bike was Jays, not sure WTF that has to do with me.
Bring your diesel to the hillclimbs in Montana this weekend. See how it does against some good running bikes!!!
Oh, I forgot... you only do burnouts in flat empty fields.....

i hear montana is nice this time of year but i was thinking of hitting the dunes. which reminds me, if powermizer or any other gss guys in the area want to test out their new race ports ill glady meet them there with video camera, fresh battery and plenty of tape for footageBring your diesel to the hillclimbs in Montana this weekend. My specs again:
01 motor
GSS mx porting
Wiseco 10 over
stock ignition
86 head
99% mx riding
32:1 927 always
pwk41
PC pipe
i have no idea how the hell you guys get away with such lean jetting. If i run anything less than a 55 pilot my bike wont start for shit, and is so ring dingy that it wont rev down in the air during a jump. I run a 60 in the thing and like it.
I run a 182 main in the cooler weather and believe it needs to be leaned out now that the hotter months have come around but I wont go any leaner than a mid 170 or it will ping its ass off.
My needle is a DGG and is right in the middle clip.
My bike pulls cleanly and has no spooge. Other 500 riders comment on how well it runs and a couple folks who have good running 2 smokes comment that my jetting is pretty damm good. it doesn not stop pulling until it hits the rev limiter.
I Ride with another member here who has a 41 and stock 86 motor, same premix and runs very close to my settings. He does have a slightly leaner needle though (CGK)
Maybe it is because I am flogging the bike on the MX track. I dont claim to use everything the 500 has to offer but i do twist up the throttle a bit. I run a PC pipe and use the upper rpm band. In WORCS races I run B class or intermediate class on the local races.
I know the P&P will open up the bike for more fuel but you guys are talking 45's for a pilot, which wont work for me at all.
baffles me every time i read these posts.
