you may be going the wrong way on the pilot. even at sea level ive never needed anything bigger than 55 on a pj and your higher elevation. you may have other problems though because 55 isnt that far off. when i first moved up where im at now (6500) i still had 55 in the carb and it was rich but no troubles starting it.
my mind is telling me check the timeing.....lewisclan wrote:all of the 41s ive got have low slows like 48s and I run at 2500 ft to sea level
i cant see why it would be so far off on jetting.. i would think a #50 would be perfect. im thinking a air leak somewhere but everything is sealed good...
first thing tonight im going to check timeing

Pilot too big IMO. If you got your carb new, the guys jet them very fat so it's you that blows your bike up jetting the carb. My carb came setup for me by a site vendor but was drastically fat. Like they want to send you a carb that is setup lean only to blow you bike up and get the blame, so they set them up way fat to make sure it isn't a problem from there end. I have a ton of jets if you need any, just cover the cost of the jet and a stamp.
thats where all the fast bikes hang out(: if it runs good on a 60 then the obvious problem is bad very bad crank seals or masive air leak....AlisoBob wrote:You must be below sealevel, in the snow.r1yfz wrote:i will be getting a 60 tomorrow
any one think bad reeds or crank seals would have this bad of a effect?
i cant beleive jetting alone would be this far off and make it THIS hard to start... but i will try a low pilot tonight and report back.... roosty is at 1000ft and is running a #50torque monster wrote:Pilot too big IMO. i took the stator side cover off, it was dry, checked timing, checked spark, everything was good
took off air box, took off carb, took of reed cage and cleaned them... reed cage had a little unburnt oily gas on the reeds and the carb was clean... i put the #50 back in and im going to take it to the dunes and try to run any unburnt gas/assembly oil and greases out of it and let you guys know how it goes.!! if that works i will start playing with the jetting more!

i'm way up on jet compared to most i guess,
didnt matter for my 39 or 41, 1 clip more on the needle for the 41 and the same
50 pilot
DGJ (1468N) neelde @3rd on the 39, 4th on the 41
#6 slide
180 Main
I get a cardboard colored chamber at this setup, usually 20c for temp at 1000ft
its needed the choke once with the 41, almost always on the 39

my gen-4 w/ a 39pwk ran a 45 pilot and still needed 2 turns out on the a/s. my gen-1 (ported beast) ran a 55 in a pwk.
do you have the stock ign to bolt on and try? I had a similar problem with my gen-3 ign, I bolted on a stock 500 ign and it ran tits. I later found out I would have needed to retard the timing to make that ignition work correctly and I had a bad coil.
