synthetic oil question

Post by 100hp honda »

seems like i heard if you put synthetic oil in a car or truck engine you cant ever go back to regular oil or it may cause some kind of damage. any truth to this ? the gf was looking to buy a new vehicle and needed to know if we should avoid the ones using synthetic.

ill stick with conventional oil. just wanted to know if there was any concearn between switching oils. mechanic at work today said he heard the same thing but doesnt think theres much to be worried about. aparently he switched his car between syn/conv and didnt see any negative side affects other than he got raped in the wallet.

my 5 qt oil change costs me 40 bucks. but im running on 8000 miles on it, and it is still pretty damn clean, and as far as i can tell, it hasent broken down at all.

I go 10k to 12k in the gasser, and 12k to 15k in the diesel.

Wifes 2000 Tahoe has 160k miles, uses no oil between changes... runs better than the day it left the dealer...

12 oil changes vs. 40 for dino oil

I have opened up motors that ran only mobil1 (the old formula) that were run to hell and back and looked brand new inside. I run synthetic. My truck takes 7qts, the wifes car takes 6 and I'm around 15k on the truck and close to 10 on her car since the last change, gonna change them this weekend. Good oil is well worth it.

Its an old junk yard dogs tail. But why would anyone do that? Unless they just can't afford it.

and that was 508,000+ with 12 changes. Sampling and testing was used and went 75K on one change. There's more to the story so don't beat me up to bad. I'm just an old guy.
