Thanks for all the replies. I bought it. The bike is in pretty good shape overall and came with a clear title, but I couldn't get it started. It has spark and 130 psi compression, so probably time for a topend and maybe reeds. The guy apparently needed cash, and sold it to me for $575.

The '87 motor is the most powerful, right? Good choice for a beercan? Is the tranny wide or close ratio?

Is this a bannedcr500rider's bike? Anyone here recognize it or know anything about it? Looks like a homebrew to me.

I buy and sell older dirt and street bikes quite a bit, 5 or 6 a year, and I watch the local ads all the time. I hate to talk value when the builder is a fellow member, but IMO $3000 is too high. There is a very small market for a bike like this, and most buyers view any modifications as a negative ...

I could use a swingarm for my 05 250X, and there are a lot more R's that pop up on fleabay. Can I use a CRF250R, or even a 450R swingarm?

I had one straightened recently. Paid $73 with tax. It looks okay and works fine, but it isn't perfect. If your rad on the other side is perfect, I'd spring for a brand new one and some Flatland guards.

The 330 jug eliminates the power valve, and I've also heard they are a bitch to jet.

Am I correct in thinking that the gen3 CR250 tank & airbox/boot will work for a 500 mill as-is?
