stator coils

Im looking at replacing all the electrics on the 500, im just wanting to know what the difference is between a regular ignition stator and a lightning ignition stator. Also, how common is it for the oem CDI units to have problems. Cheers.

The centre gasket was fine, it ended up being that seal on the inside of the collar... it was not there! Wont stuff that up next time. Do you know if that seal comes with the collar or do you have to order it as well?

Im running fresh 32:1 premix. I'll go with your advice on the carb settings. I got a bad feeling tho that tranny oil is leaking into the crank. White smoke, plenty spooge and it smells like second hand 4 stroke oil, the tranny oil was in there for about 2 to 3 months before i ran the bike the other ...

Talon hubs wont fit.

I have a new set of wheels here with talon hubs, the rear is giving me a bit of trouble. With the collars in either side of the hub when i try to fit the wheel the disk side collar fouls on the bracket that the brake calliper mounts on. Its as if i need to spread the swingarm 3or 4 mm. has anyone ev...

On the counter shaft there is a washer that sits against the bearing in the right case and left case, the main shaft however does not have a washer against the right case bearing, only against the left case bearing. As for the gearshift drum there is no indication of a washer and i do not recall ins...

Drilling piston oil holes.

When drilling those oil holes in the piston, how far below the lower ring should the first hole be drilled, how many and the distance between them? Also what size should they be drilled out to?
Thanks.

Top end questions

I recently bought an aftermarket gasket kit for the 500 (should have gone genuine i know). I am wondering though, should the cylinder base gasket be a metal gasket the same as the head gasket? What do you get in a geniune kit? Also, i gotta get new piston and rings, iv seen a couple of brands like w...

Thanks a million for that, appreciate the help. I guess someone was a bit backwards with their year models, or just a really good bullshit artist.

Clutch question.

This afternoon i was installing my clutch to find i was one plate and friction disk to short according to my manual, 7 friction disks and 6 plates. To clear things up a little when i was pulling the engine apart i broke the clutch center, that was an expensive and frustrating little lesson. So i ord...

Crank shaft bearing question.

Hi,
just a couple of questions on crank shaft bearings. When putting your case back together, how should you lube you bearings and exactly how do they stay lubricated once the engine is running?
Thanks,
Fletch.

Piston size

Iv just been checking out the top end on my 500, though im not to sure if i should replace the piston. The bore looks fine, fairly sure the rings are shagged, the piston though... is a wiesco, you can definatly tell its had work but there is no bad scoring, no cracks, just a bit of discolouring (bro...

Hello from QLD

Fletch here, im 21 years old and live on the central east coast of Australia. Iv been riding now for about 4 years and have recently got hold of a run down 2001 CR500 as a bit of a restore project. Now i know 2001 is not that old but this thing has had a major lack of TLC (as you can see if i insert...

Im restoring an abused CR500, i almost broke down into tears when i found out it was a '01 model. The bottom end tho is from a '98 model and im having the same issue with my crank case, the right half is shagged. So while the subject is open i am wondering if an '93 right half will fit the '98 botto...
