The CR gods may banish me foverver, but a rubber mallet will usually spilt the cases just fine. If the main bearings are a stubborn, lightly heating the case area around the bearing with a propane torch gets the job done. I have done several motors like this, always with good luck.

For the ...

How much capacity does a remolded stock tank have?

How much capacity does a properly remolded stock tank have?

I remolded the tank on my 03 last night to clear the plug. I may have gotten a little happy with the heat gun. I managed to get about two inches of clearance above a shorty plug when it was all said and done. I measured the tank capacity ...

I went ahead, cleaned it up and put it on the bike yesterday. I didn't have the greatest sizes of jets and needles to choose from, but the bike started much easier than with the PJ. After taking a look at the PJ jet sizes it is a wonder the bike would start at all. The previous owner had it jetted ...

PWK carb measurment

Digging around in my enormous pile of motorcycle junk I pulled out a PWK. I have no idea what bike the carb came off of. I can't decide if it is a 38 or 39mm. Where do you measure the bore at? From my el cheapo calipers it appears that the bore is tapered. The very outside edge of the bore appears ...

I was told the bike has new v force reeds, so I figure they are in pretty good shape. There is an exhaust leak where the pipe meets the head. Can that cause starting difficulty? Regardless, it is on my list of things to take care of.

I started looking a little closer at the bike, and it has a ...

These are about the same drills that I have used on two strokes in the past. It is taking 10-15 good solid kicks to get this thing going right now. Not exactly the easiet thing to do on a fresh top end. I was hoping that I was missing something. Looks like it is time to play with the carb. Thanks ...

What is your starting drill?

Just bought a CR500 that is in one piece and actually runs the other day. This bike ain't no joke to start. Growing up on 250's I didn't give much thought to starting this thing. You gotta have some ass to get this thing to turn over! How do you guys get these things started? What is the technique ...
