any pics of where the hole enters the combustion chambers ??
i know you a bit concerned about people saying it would block on the outer edge just think the hole in the outer edge is a safer option [ could also make it harder to do any head work at a later date [recutting squich band]

IS there a reason to do it on the right side? I don't see why anyone would want to put it near the pipe. The left side has no obstructions, especially ones that could burn your hand.

nice job mate well done , looks a good quality valve,
you mentioned u did not have drill long enough , the hole2valve in mine is probably only 30mm long so i take it u drilled to a different point in combustion chamber? probably going to be a bit more of a risk weaking the squish area of head [also ...

i had a 94-96 250 system on a 500 i bought about three ago,[ been fitted by someone else] i personally think the main gain everone is raving about is due to the lighter flywheel , bit like the differance of removing of a 12oz flywheel weight , it does not make any better spark

got a few heads and secondhand pistons here dont see any more carbon in the outer area than centre,
seanmx57 so u are trying to say its going to block up 100x faster in the place i have used, wheres the hot pipe u are refering to??

probably not worth much more, looks like its been sitting outside for ages judging by the state of the faded panels ,looks like there could be a few parts missing chain, peg,and the rad look a bit bent,
make sure u got plenty of time on your hands if doing conversion
sometimes it work out cheaper ...

got mine fitted 125usd inc decomp valve and head skimmed , brillant job, highly recommend the guy that did it, cost me 55usd to send three heads from US to uk[,done2xKX 1Xcr ] you are going to have to drill the hole in the right place which can be tricky, the X you have marked is going through the ...
