WOW!! Nice!!!
I wonder if he went lean or started knocking from lack of octane??? either way...looks BAD
I've never seen that many busted rods together, I wonder if he was just pushing too much power for the rods to handle!

That's what happens when you use a Ford motor. Crappy rods.

The main reasons for the winter blowups are
1. The knock sensors are disbaled on these truck due to the blower noise
2. There is no boost sensor (computer doesnt know its up 4lbs due to low temp)
3. People running with tunes already on the edge of being lean
4. People without widebands.
5. Shitty powdered metal rods
All five combined = Big boom!

Don't the cobra motors have forged rods? Wouldn't that be an easy swap?

of coarse, I wouldn't run more than 18psi on pump gas 91 on ANYTHING.
My starion would knock at 20psi on 91 octane with a very mellow timing curve and plenty of fuel on 7.2:1 pistons. So I ran 18psi on pump gas, but on weekends, I would fill up on 100 octane at the la paz and cabot 76 statio and crank it up to 26psi

the fucker moves to say the least...couldn't keep the rear wheels from trying to pass the front!
I think the big problem is people who don't know what they are doing with tuning and think with boost the sky is the limit.

Yup the 03-04 cobras got forged rods from the factory, for some unknown reason they dint want to spend the extra $300 on the trucks
The motor swap isnt a very good one as the cobra is a 4.6 vs our 5.4, the cobra 48v heads on the other hand are a good mod.

that just plain scares me, how the hell do you retard timing and richen mixture without a boost reference???
is it just a MAF system??? That the worst idea ever! I had a 3 bar map on my starion which is why I stopped at 26psi, when I tried 28psi, it would spike over 30psi (~3bar) when the wastegate was in the process of opening and would then have no reference for how much fuel or timing to use and just shut off. talk about choking on your seat belt

MAF is all we got and it maxes out at around 16psi (4.7-4.9v) after that you start melting stuff
Thats what causes most of the bangs, the guys dyno in 90 degree weather at say 14 psi with the MAF hitting 4.5v then the weather gets cooler and the air denser and all of a sudden they are at 16-17psi with a pegged MAF, they keep there foot in it "cos the trucks runnin AWSOME" and bang.
You can buy a MAF extender called a MAFia from diablo sport that when tuned for can stop your MAF from maxing (I think its just a set of resistors to reduce the voltage).
Mine has maxed once that I know of, it was around 40 degrees outside and I was datalogging in the street it was showing 16psi and my MAF hit 4.8v, the AF went from 11.8:1 to 13.5:1 in one jump !!!!!!! I got out of the gas and all was good, I dont get all over it when its below 45 anymore.

PUSSY!

Or build a motor that can handle it. That's why I love big cube motor's that are naturally aspirated.

It's the only vehicle I've owned for more than 6 months that I still like driving, I use it as a truck, it has 4 captains chairs, it has a nice interior, it has a nice system, it looks alrite, its fast, and it sounds awsome... AND it goes off road!
On a negative note, it drinks gas, the brakes suck, it eats tires, its too loud and its a ford......
