$55 PWK

Post by plynn41 »

Just got this in today from fleabay. Came off of a '91 KX500. Very dirty and the slide spring inside was broken, but it cleaned up well. Plan on putting it on my '88 motor. All the parts are there, I've just got it disassembled for cleaning.

Great deal. I was able to get near 40 mm by boring my 38mm out. still had room to go more but I didn't want to even come close to windowing it.

What bikes came stock with PWKs?

I'd love to find an eBay deal like that!

What bikes came stock with PWKs?
for the 39.5mm
92 and newer KX500 acording to eric gorr
no clue about the 38 tho
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

I just got around to putting a micrometer on this carb and it measures a little over 40mm. Has it been bored?

Micrometer was inserted as far as it would go, but doesn't reach the slide. I probably need a different mic. I used my finger to see if I could detect a difference in diameter, and couldn't. But the throat of the carburetor close to the slide does have a different texture than the throat closer to the engine--like a crosshatched cylinder.

Oddly the cheapest PWKs on ebay are the newest. I snagged a like new one from a 2008 RM250 for $70. Swaged a piece of stainless to get the length back up, plus a bit to fit my particular AF better. Its epoxied on. Had to strip the the powervalve and TPS off but that took all of 10 minutes.

Maybe someone should sell adapters.
