One of my old mechanics from the last Gulfstream job I had knew a dude that flew those. He'd never tell him top speed but he did say they had an emergency right when they got to cruise altitiude out of somewhere in Japan. Landed at Edwards in Cali about 40 minutes later......

those things were amazing, once breaking the sound barrioer, they would ride the sonic boom with the cones on the front of the engines. I heard that they had some state of the art star navigation system in those since they would be up so high.

A year or so ago I sold a car to a retired U-2 pilot, we talked about the car deal for 20 mins then I bent his ear for 3 hrs about U2 stories.
