those parts mix tho dont they?
the packard was the european one and the merlin was the north american right. or was it alison/merlin?
either way, they all had steel cylinder sleeves we had to change to castiron and the alison rods were the best.
I think its a merlin that Diemert has in the shed stil

some of the best uses on the ground....

The Allison is the American V-12. Not real powerful, but very smooth... and yes, the Allison rods are the ones to have.

Rolls Royce built the Merlin over in the UK, and its big brother.. the Griffion. At Reno, most of the fast Merlins have Allison Rods in them.

Rolls Royce could not build Merlins fast enought during the war, so they licensed Packard to built them. Packard build a shit load of them here in the U.S.,
and supposedly they have better metalurgy, but otherwise are identicle to the R/R version.

The Rolls Royce Meteor is basically the Merlin, with no supercharger, and was used in British tanks...

Bad ass!

we bought them from a company called Skip Coulee, they came in barrels of grease and either rotation.

the most winningest tractor of the 80s, the Randy Canadian Special
Its altered for alky, custom cams and its injected with a datalogger. He pulls into the pit and hooks the printer on, 1 sheet of paper per second with each cylinders temp, pressure and timing.

He owned a Case equipment dealer until 5-6 years ago, now the tractor is in hiding from creditors, altho the last i heard its painted a different colour and won its division in the usa again this year.

It was an awesome trip, Bob picked me up at the airport as I'd expected. when i called to say i was in, had my luggage and was ready to go, he asks what gate and tells me to look for a white duramax, that took like 2 seconds, it was the only one to the floor in the parking lot.
I left a damp 52f to land in dry 104f, it was great.

The first stop from the airport was Subway, yes we have subway here, but dude, its alot different  . we have more mustards and they have tripple sized drinks.

We stopped by the lair of Solid Bro, good to meet another dude from the board. On the side he comes of as a comical dude that takes no shit and thats how he delivers, awesome to hang with, we managed to fit in supper with Bob Eric and I on monday night and he came on the tuesday road trip to get me back to the airport. Eric is working on some AF bikes, making a hell of a nice job welding frames and doing the fab work building components for new conversions. Expect some high class parts to be available soon.

Bob and the family are awesome! seldom a day goes by that i dont talk to Bob, he's very good at describing how things are, i was surprised by the geography but everything else was bang on how he describes it.

We got up early friday morning and hit the road, pulled into Reno mid morning and strait to the races. Getting out of the truck the sound of the planes was great, we have rotary spray planes fly over home alot, hearing one is nothing compared to hearing 6+ wfo.

It'd be a great show for anyone to attend, but having Bob there telling me tech and history of the machines made for an experience many would appreciate even if they'd gone to it their entire lives.

Jack had lots of questions eh, and was willing to put his homework aside to tell me stories as we drove  .

I've got a few good pictures to post but i gotta get up to speed in the shop here first, check in later for those.

Thanks Bob, Vicky, Jack, Berlin, and Eric for making it an excellent trip!

oh, and then there were the buffets
