Vertex Pistons - which version are people using?

Vertex pistons seem to have a good reputation amongst many 500 people, and my own experience in the trade / and friends fitting them to other bikes, seem to show them as good things.

I've downloaded the catalogue, and have been meaning to ask what version people are using, for a while.

They list, for the 500, Replica pistons , and Race pistons. Both are cast.

Different part numbers, different prices.

Logically, you'd go towards the piston you'd assume was a higher spec / quality, but I've never seen reference to these 2 piston levels on either 500 site. Perhaps because one or the other is all that is available in certain markets, my assumption being it is probably the Race?

What are you blokes using when you're fitting a Vertex, Replica, or Race??

Vertex hasnt had the "race" piston for years, i tried getting them back in 2004 and they'd already discontinued them, too bad really, says its forged and single ring, #2458***, we only have the 2447*** ones to work with and they've been excellent.
I've said it before, Vertex is thee only piston that i'll bore a cyl to size and not check it to the piston, ive sent cylinders ready and the customer bought the piston and checked clearence, BANG ON. The exhasut face is a pinch wider than stock, not like the failure design of pro-x, they also use the same ring as stock, like wiseco braggs about switching to.

we've ran them for years, i have a 89.75 in the '00 bike and vertex wont even recognize they made that size  they had made them in .25 sizes before.

I got a vertex single ringer a couple years ago. The rings are made by vertex and are a different material than honda rings. The specs on tight or loose rings are way different. .022 is a very tight ring by vertex standards, but waaaay loose for a honda ring.

I know the honda circlips are identical in dimension to the vertex circlips.

Thanks for the answers.

No problem if it's the replica for me then, as I'd prefer a 2 ring piston.

The 2010 catalogue listed both as being cast - no forged 500 ones listed.

As for you Asteriod - You are a Bloody Worry , Mate !

I wonder what your wife would think of that wish?
