Flywheel weight ?

I know this is a stupid question but what is the purpose for a flywheel weight on the 500?

youll be able to start your bike and let go of it and it wont fall over with that much gyro :lol:

it does mellow the power delivery tho, not spin as much

doesnt add or subtract any power if thats what your wondering. only person i ever talked to that used a weight was p&p, think he took it off because it sucked balls pretty much was his exact words :D .

I ran one and then sold it to Rjerks who ripped me off. Basically it changes the power delivery characteristics making the power more manageable by smoothing out the hit (makes the motor rev slower). Increases anti stall...

It does not change either the torque or the power. It slows down the speed at which the engine spins up and slows down when you shut the throttle. In practice it mellows up some of the "hit". Flywheel weights come in several weights so you moderate the effect depending on what type of riding you do, skill level, how much effect you want.

I've ridden with a 13 oz Steahly flywheel weight and - for me - it did smooth out the power, but not to an earth-shattering extent. Note: the flywheel with some digital ignitions is heavier than stock and has some of the same effect.

The Steahly installation instructions are suspect because their torque settings and no Loctite advice will not keep the flywheel weight on (it is in effect a big nut holding the stock rotor in place). If it comes loose it will shear the woodruff key holding the rotor onto the crankshaft. 5 mins to fix but sucks when it happens mid-GP. Mine's now sitting on the bench.

if you know how to use the throttle and clutch there completely useless
if i want smoother power i just spin the throttle slower, but maybe thats just me

i broke it once after i went from this to a brand new D952 and tubliss setup

and heres what i broke it on, finger slipped off the clutch, my fault, heavier flywheel woulda made it do the same then go for 10 more feet

try gearing it down two teeth on the rear.
i run a 14/46 combo and love it to death.
minimises gear changes and makes 2nd gear useable.
