OK, heres the scoop, i just talked with Al at Wiseco, ext 3105

new piston comes with "armor guard" skirt coating, electricoated (black) underside, dome and ring groove
89mm part is 410grams
New KD style ring, more efficient "semi keystone"
Intake window is stil 1.757 wide like the later 554 and 636 pistons
it does have boss holes, and has side milling fore and aft, not a wide face exhaust.

EXPECT FRIDAY INVENTORY

I mentioned that i think they should make the piston larger, up to atleast 92mm, he said he'd seriously consider it :D

So how long do you suppose it will take to decide if they are gonna produce the plus sized pistons ( bigger than 91mm)? I need to either get one of these pistons, or buy a new cylinder. The last place I had bore my cylinder apparently didnt like holding tolorences to well. They bored it to have .006 clearence. So needless to say, the topend was wore out before it was even assembled, and it was on the last bore (91mm).

ya, i have this one jug bored 91.95 for the custom wiseco i have.

The sleeve at 91.95 is stil thicker than the 85-88 sleeves at 91mm

I dont know if buying 10 pistons is going to be very cost effective for me when I'm probably only gonna need 1. I guess I'll just buy a new cylinder.

I'm not too worried about heat. It only runs for 6-15 seconds max....Hillclimber.

I had a buddy that did the Nicom, he had trouble with it. started chipping after about 3 rides. they replated it for free, but he was still out the down time, and shipping. Later on it looked like the sleave started coming loose from the cylinder around the intake port, causing the piston drag on the intake side. He ended up pulling the cylinder off and taking it out of comission.

Kinda makes me a little nervous going that route.

You are talking about the plating they put on the cast iron? Basically a fancy chrome? I know lots of people have had issues with that. Im talking about the same stuff the OEMs use on all MX bikes these days. Its proven technology, no issues as long as its done by a competent company...

stock exhaust is already 70% bore width. everyone has their own porting secrets but many guys go up to 100%. narrow exhaust face will cause big problems. fawkin wiseco engineers  . they had 15 years to get this shit figured out :?

maybe its 68%. i measured one while back and its somewhere around 70ish if i recall. makes no bit of difference anyways because i know of couple porters in the western states that put the exhaust at +/- 100%.... front cutouts aint gonna work. for the dudes that port their stuff different, the new piston might work fine.

not trying to agrue with anyone, just saying i think wiseco is making a huge fuggin mistake if indeed they thin out the exhaust face.
