#1 keep feet on the pegs unless you are 1/2 a second away from hitting the ground, standing helps lots, if you lose balance and HAVE to take a foot of the pegs put ALL your weight on the foot thats on the peg
#2 keep a few fingers on the clutch at all times, use it lots, even more
#3 know how to bail/not make a hill, ive had best luck with the deathgrip/ stay on the bike strategy, DO NOT FALL DOWNHILL
#4 stay in good shape, and drink LOTS of water the day before riding, i work piling lumber which has whiped me into shape in 6 months, i dont get armpump anymore even on a 500 , used to get it bad on my 125 last year even with the feather clutch, its cool to be able to go all out on tight st all day and do it again tomorow
#5 make sure your bike is working/jetted right
notice both feet of the pegs = fail most of the time prime example at 1 minute
if i get rich i will be definately going there... with my bike

I watched a show on the Erzberg race last month, that shit is fukin beyond crazy. Serious hats off to everyone that can finish that
Its something unreal numbers wise, IIRC 1500 start and 30 or so finish
Casseli finished and did really good this year

#6 you mean ride a two stroke or go home,
or if you have a rekluse dont even bother loading your quad up
heres a true story on how i got ridiculously good at not stalling:
im riding and at the end of the day i notice my kickstart is gone WTF, go looking for it and dont find it. so i go to the worst dealership ever, my local honda 1, and they want $160 for a new kickstart, less for some gay anodised one that looked like it was off a giovani bike, no way im going either route. so i never ended up getting one... this is on a cr 125 BTW.
i rode that bike for 8 months without a kickstart, having to bomb start my bike whenever i stalled it in the middle of a mud bog, in 2 feet of snow(yes i ride through winter), or in the middle of a creek.... well i figured its easier to learn to use the clutch properly than bomb start
another true story, kinda... ALL 4 STROKE RIDERS ARE PUSSIES, at least in BC

wow, you talk tough for a 125 rider... ever broken a clutch lever on a 125 inside a valley in the rain?? 125 is easy to bump start and easy to not stall if you have a clutch.
BTW, I never do, or recommend anyone have a "stay with the bike" policy, I'd seen people get really hurt becuse they don't let go, shit gets hairy for me, the first thing I do is kick the bike away and it has saved me from many injuries.

I'm going to agree with Danny about getting away except for one instance I had. Coming out of a wash hauling ass at Glamis and all of a sudden there is a stupid figure 8 three wheeler track. You know, high berms probably 50-60ft across. I'm pinned in around 4th gear, first thought hit the brakes then I said fuck it and clutched off and nailed the throttle. I sailed perfect across the whole track landed on flat ground and went back to the truck and changed my shorts.....

I've hit a few of those, luckily I'm never going too fast through there.

Lots of trash talk coming from a guy who turns down all offers to ride with anyone who is "anyone"...

I cant wait to see that video. All those guys standing in a circle around you trying to absorb as much of your knowledge as possible before competing. Hell most of those wrecks on that video could have been avoided had they just read this thread before heading to Erzberg!

Thats why I stand up wheelie across the flats, from my altitude I can see for about 4.3 miles in all directions...
dannygraves wrote:wow, you talk tough for a 125 rider...
Going from a 125 to a 500 sounds a lot like "compensating"...hahaha I know of at least one other person who did the very same thing...
dannygraves wrote: 125 is easy to bump start and easy to not stall if you have a clutch.
I think you could start a 125 by leaning it over your thigh and grabbing the back wheel and spinning it!

a guy who turns down all offers to ride with anyone who is "anyone"...
i dont remember turning down any offers to ride, i dont have money to travel tho...
i probably be entering in the squealing pig hare scramble, theres usualy around 200 riders sept 4 or 5th, lumby at bardolph lake if i do i will post results it be great for some hoons to show up too.... the guy that sets the races up rides a kx500 (worlds uglyest bike)
M.F.D.B. your just mad because i think rekluses are for girls on their crf 150r s
wow, you talk tough for a 2010 500AF rider
fixed
ive went over backwards in 4th wound on a rocky gravel road, but i cranked it over sideways as hard as i could and held on, i was expecting broken bones but i got a few scratches
ive seen a few people go over in 4th and most end up hurt pretty bad
its definatly helped me a few times, but it could be a lot worse hanging on in some situations too

Not that I recall for that one, but there was plenty of stupid shit I did in my 20's out there that plenty of people saw. I was always sporting more balls than brains then...LOL

We were giving Danny Graves shit because that is exactly what he did, I forgot about you doing the same...
I skipped the 125 and started out on the 500, but you already know that, since you are one of the "OG" hoons. For those that dont, thats what M.F.D.B. means, (My First Dirt Bike) not Mutha F'n Doooosh Bag as Britt and others would have you believe...

The 125 to 500 jump must be common because I did the same. Couldn't find a 250 that was decent and was pleasantly surprised with the 500. Just wish I had my back fixed, an AF so it would handle better and a decomp from roosty and I would be all set. Maybe someday.....

I jumped to a 500 because I bought a running cr500 for $700, I couldn't touch a running 250 at the time for less than $1500 and I was a broke ass nigga.
Andy, I sold the 125 in late 2002, remember while I was getting the mpi conversion and sds running on the starion... and I bought the 500 in mid 2006, so, maybe 3 1/2 years... it was still a sad time

ive went over backwards in 4th wound on a rocky gravel road
on my 125
Happends a lot when a 125 guy rides a 500...
i havent went over yet on the 500
ill try and get some vids this weekend just to make mfdb happy till i go to the states... heres a pic of me when i was 11 in the novice class(no age restriction) of the PNWMA Off-Road Series race in bear creek, im 911, dead engine start came 3rd all 100+ riders on the same track, yes the gasgas 200 beat me
Going from a 125 to a 500 sounds a lot like "compensating"...
maybe im serious about riding and want a good bike after riding junk, i went 500 because i used to ride a XCR800 every winter and everything i ride will feel tame after that 162hp stock, pipes reeds stingers premium = 180hp+ .... and i probably only weighed 60 lbs it was a rush to let her loose on a field
for bob it had a diffrent map stock for 91 premium vs regular 87 too bad its gone now

.... maybe but to know when it is better to hang on is a good thing, my friend "broke" his knee doing the same thing in 3rd, while i did it in fourth and didnt need an ambulance ride... thats why i said it worked for me, and didnt say always hang on

I guess I don't count on this:
to 83 CR125
84 CR250
85 CR500 and on with lots of broken rear fenders the first year...lol
