Been dropping in here for a while also to check on ideas and advice and have found this site very helpfull and entertaining.
I have bought a 99 roller and have a 96 as the donor.
Went for the 99 as I have read they have a stiff chassis and that will suit the road racing I wish to do with it.
Been searching Ebay for ages sourcing bling and nearly have all the bits needed. Just need to redesign my swing arm to look pretty and fit up rear brakes then all will be assembled.
Can't wait to see how it will compare to the 96 Chassis!
99 Roller.
96 Donor!
Oh yea, and apparently we need a photo of the neighbour?
Yea, right, well it's ok to wish isn't it

. . . .and a 610TE Husky lurking in the background as well . Good man ! Just replaced my 510TE with a 570 'Berg, and miss the Husky handling already.
Nice looking AF too. I road raced a steelie in the 80's (before anyone had even seen a motard, so it was a bit of a novelty) and loved it ! The big bang power pulses created some frightening moments when it was cranked over onto the very edge of the tire, but overall, shitloads of fun.
Love the swingarm bracing job !

Yea, NUP!
Brand new 08 TE450 - biggest Friday afternoon built piece of shit ever!
18 warranty issues in less than nine months! (Including motor rebuild @ 1200km!)
That's how I have this user name "Dumprun" because that's what I was willing to do with it and then started posting on forums about all the issues and lack of help from the Australian importers - Paul Feeney Group
They can all go fuck em selves as far as I'm concerned and will never buy Euro trash again.
You want to buy it!
I have just put Motard wheels on it now and are going to kill it.
Gone back to Jap stuff (Yam 450) again and gues what?
No issues!
Just put fuel and oil in em and ride the suckers!
Still luv my CRs though and that's why I am here.

hello bud, nice motard & i agree husky's are a dated piece of crap! i rode suzuki's for 20yr's & would not even shit on a euro bike until last year i rode a 09' berg and brought it that day & loved it for 12 months then traded it on a 2010 KTM300exc & 5 months later no issues & a great bike.Adelaide is a beautiful city i'm working there at the moment, would be nice to see the sun though!
Good luck with your AF

I'm surprised to hear that you hated the Husky, Dumprun. I've had 2 510 TEs, actually still have one of them. Had no dramas at all with them, and even claimed a master cylinder on warranty (Husky and KTM both use Magura clutch M/Cs, Husky 2yr warranty, KTM 3 months . . . won't admit to doing anything dodgy, but you work it out . . . . ) Paul Feeney Group had a new one waiting at the dealers within 6 days, and even supplied the mineral oil to bleed 'er up again . . . Fkn awesome service in WA.
If you wanted a bike that tracked dead straight and stable through carved up sand whoops that had KTMs tank slapping against their steering dampers, the Husky was IT ! It also had really plush suspension, without sacrificing any steering agility, and great ergos. I loved it !
Yes it's old school design (so are CR 5s, but I love them too !), and a bit top heavy, but mint fun. I only used it for motard and trail riding, and I couldn't fault it. It also did the biggest fuckin 100KPH wheelstands in the world ! Only my new 570 Berg does em better.
kdr 500, do I assume you are shittin on Husky's without ever having owned one ?

I've owned an '08 TE510 and had several friends that have had 310's, 450's or 510's now 2 of them are on KTM300exc and the other 4 are on berg's. I have also owned an '09 FE450 berg and i can honestly say there is no better ADR approved 4 stroke( berg's bike of the year twice!) Further more i don't put shit on something that i have not owned except harley's

Perhaps that's the best use for a gen1 - motard , tar hill climb, or a bike along the lines of the GP450s they are making out of the current 450s. That stiff as concrete frame might just work well in those areas.
I still own a Gen1, only because it was one of the first ones we did in 97. Most of us that made them up, rapidly went back to our steel frames, at the time. The bike's in storage in SA, up in the Adelaide Hills. Probably my least favourite / most disappointing bike project I have ever done.
Keep in mind just how old it is - unless you know the history of it, really know what to look for, you could be in for a bit of grief. Mind you, you can do the conversion in an afternoon, and a few beers and pizzas.
Shit , I can be a negative bastard at times. Sorry.
