'91 widest tire?

Hey guys I am wanting a bigger tire for my new 1991 CR500. I was wondering how big I could go? I do woods riding and I can't get any traction with the 110 that is on it now. Over at thumpertalk.com a few said I could fit up to a 140. But I really don't want to order the IRC M5B 140 and then have it not fit. What do you guys think?

Thanks!
Bryan

What size tube should I get for this tire?

How is the clearance with that tire? Is the chain more prone to snag and rip off knobbies? Is it easy to get it past the rear brake caliper?

IRC M5B 140/80/18.
I have had at least 6 of them things on my 95.

I have tried several others. Its the one I keep going back to. It may not be the BEST traction in ALL cases, but it IS the most consistent and predictable over most terrain.

Where are you located?
What is your terrain like?
What tire are you presently running?

Not if your wheel is installed correctly. (ie. spokes not offset improperly, wheel drive alignment not even, axle spacers incorrect, chain is toast/adjusted properly)

I'm sure you wouldn't have any issues xylicon. All it takes is a little assembly competence. Do it wrong though, and yeah, it will chew the knobbies off with the chain.

Easy to get past caliper? How is that an issue? The caliper slides off and out of the way.
That is to say, I've never had to fight with it for more than 5-10 seconds. Non issue.

I live in Georgia and ride trails, rocky, muddy, georgia red clay. I think I will go with the 140 M5B and a 120 tube?

I think you'll be happy with it. You're not going to find anything that will give you "good" traction on that clay. But like I said before, the M5B offers "no surprises". It's big, meaty and behaves very predictably and consistently.

Awesome! Thanks man, I'm going to order it tomorrow I'll definitely let you guys know if it fits and if I like it! The tire thats on it now is a 110 "Kings Tire"? It looks like a piece..
