Well, I discovered today that my bike has a weighted flywheel. The flywheel came off, and I looked at it, and it says Moose Racing Colorado 3/92. My bike is a 91, so I think it was put on long ago. The entire assembly is one peice because the weight is welded on, so there is no removing it. I wanted to see what folks here think about them. It seems really heavy, the entire flywheel has to weigh 2 or 3 pounds, but I don't know what the weight of the weight is, because I don't know what a stock flywheel weighs. The riding I do is mixed, but if this thing makes me sluggish in the dunes, I want a stock one. My thought was that it might make it slower out of the gate, but that it holds the rpms up at speed on hill climbs, maybe I'm wrong though. And does anyone here have a stock one I can try at Glamis? Seems easy enough to switch out.

dude unless you want your machine woosyfied then i would throw that thing in the trash and get a stocker.

Well I read about them, and they are supposed to help keep the rpms from dropping on hill climbs. That makes sense because of the inertia of the extra rotating mass. It might also explain why my bike flat smoked the hills last season after I kicked it into 4th gear. 3rd gear, everyone else is right there, click to 4th and it pulls away, and will do a wheelie all the way up. I still wanna try a stocker just to see the difference.

Well, I wanna try a stock one, but the bike is a good fast machine even with it, so I didn't want to just shit can it. And I do like the bike for riding the normal stuff around here, maybe a stocker would make it better, but maybe it would be a crazy ride. Wonder why the past owner used it?

Ok, I put on a stock flywheel, it did make the bike more punchy off the bottom, but in the test ride, I couldn't decide if it was any big deal. I will bring both to Glamis and decide there if it matters to me.

Hey, I put the steahly 13oz on the niner, and it worked out quite well for my type of riding. The thing is real good in the tight stuff, and the bottom end didn't really suffer at all, IMO. It did take a ride or 2 to get used to, but I feel it improved upon an already good trail bike. I guess it all depends on you, and for some guys, who you really think you are and what your ability really is.

I give that product a thumbs up. My one good bro, an "A" class rider, thought the world of the niner AFTER I installed the weight. Loved the way it rolled thru the turns on our tight singletrack up here. Theres one now residing in his '95.
