Tire Recommendations

I am looking for a rear replacement tire again. I am coming off of a Maxxis Desert IT 120/90/19 - lasted a long time for sure! I am debating on going back with the Maxxis or trying out a Dunlop D739 in the same size. The riding I do ranges from rocky and slick hard pack, to desert sand/rock and the occasional track ride.

I am skeptical on Dunlop because all the models I've had in the past dont last very long. What do you guys suggest? What has your best experience been with?

I love the Maxxis Desert IT, its all I ever use.

I run the 110/100-18 on both my bikes.

x2 on the s12, also been running a kenda millville lately, best tire out there for the money IMO. i mostly ride in sand and sandy dirt and a few trips to the mountains each year(dirty bush, logs, rocks, mud). we always ride pretty aggressive.

s12 is great in the sand and handles/holds up surprisingly well on hard pack or rock, + they are still usable when they are 50% gone

the only tire more durable than M5B is terreflex. They both are brutally heavy tires... your suspension will hate you for it, and handling suffers, but man they move allot of dirt!

For bush riding and wear I ran allot of M5B, and for the track a lighter tire

The Terraflex is almost twice as heavy as the M5B and IMO doesnt hook up as well

I only owned one Terraflex, but about 20 M5B!

One thing I experienced with the M5B is when I run 7-10 psi in the tire (prevent a flat on a long ride) it will chunk the knobs on rocks I usually run 3-5 psi with 2 rim locks and dont have that problem

the terraflex by cheng shin was better than the interco versions now. we've had 6 of the newer ones and 1 ride will take the good out of it :(

Hmmm - this M5B sounds tempting. Read good stuff on it. But the only thing that concerns me is that is says for soft terrain. But reviews indicate otherwise. I ride mainly So Cal desert and fire roads......hmmm

M5B!!!! That is all I used in SoCal. Cant beat it in the loam, rocks, roots, mud and singletrack. It does "ok" on hardpack.

i've been using a budget tyre for the last 2 years and love it.
I highly recomend the, Excella OF/217 cross competition.
I came strongly recomended by a fellow enuro rider and a recomendation well founded.

this tyre on my 99 CR/250 has done 3 x 3hr endurance races,covering.... swamp, mud,rock,sand,iron gravel,quary rock,beach,bull dust,logs,stumps,roots,slime covered water ways,ashphalt,hard pack,very hard pack.
3 x 3, flat track meetings consisting of 4, 10 lap races...as you can see it's just about a it's ware marker now...not bad IMO and it gripps like hell throws a roost at any unsuspecting opponent as it has a paddle like stack of knobs on every second row and is pure value for money.

try the IRC VE-33 volcanduro ( i think its called) allmost the same radical knob pattern as M5B but for mediun terrian

theres more meat at the bead area to protect the rim also

dont last as long as the M5B but for better traction on harder terrain you need a softer compond so you have to give a little somewhere
