grind plating off and re-weld. several ways to weld it but have a experienced welder do it or it most likely wont last long.

What are your plans for the repaired area after it's welded?

It'll be un-plated and that's that.

the small welded area you could put a thin layer of clear rtv on it and might keep rust from forming. or leave it bare, shouldnt matter much.

I had a Pro Circuit naked pipe repaired. I just painted it. But, it had a lot of dents so it looks better painted.

I have an un-painted un-plated hand-made pipe on my vintage bike and if you keep it rubbed down with Scotchbrite and WD-40 it's keeps from getting rusty. I'll do the same here.

I've welded the mounts numerous times on all of my fmf plated pipes, I just take a wire wheel to the spot I plan to weld set my welder up right for the job and weld away... I havent had trouble with any of my welds breaking and rust isnt an issue as I do the same thing as you and scotch brite and wd-40 my pipes after they get a bath. Good Luck!

I used to scotch back in the day, before plated pipes. This pipe came on my 250 and was goofed up to start. I had it fixed but there are still small dings that wouldn't come out. This particular pipe looks better painted. I had it sandblasted but the header is still pitted.
Besides, it's less maintenance for me to just paint it.
If I had a nice naked pipe I'd try to keep it looking that way.
By the way, post some before and after pics if you can.

I've never bought a pc pipe but the finish on fmf isnt very high quality (the nickle is hazy and chips easy) so I just use a scotch brite on them after a while it will wear through the nickel plate and gives it kind of a works finish. I can ppost pics of my nickle plated pipes I've welded if you would like.
