The harley truck and lightning board do a really big GTG every year, Ive never been but always wanted to go, its a weekend of drag racing BSing and drinking.
It all went wrong for frank

, he drove the truck out there and is now stuck.
Hes a really cool member of nloc.com who spent a ton of cash on a built motor and turbo build that he just got dialed in. Good news is frank and yaeger (red truck) are both fine
Vid.
Damage
How franks truck sits
Everyone is banding together helping out with parts and labour to get him rolling home!

Was it wheel spin that threw him over the divider? I'm glad to hear that both drivers are doing well!
BTW Brit, I have a '98 Cobra motor and IRS in my '89 Mustang LX hatchback. My next project is to pull the 4.6 4 valve and drop in a Navigator 5.4 4 valve with a Sullivan intake and about 10 lbs of boost off of a pair of turbos.

Yup the spin screwed him, he'd already done 4-5 fast runs and was getting faster until this.
You might have an issue with the IRS diff coming apart if your gonna be over 500 or so horse (probably will be

)

I'll scrounge some pics together off of the computer when I get home and start a thread for sure!
And you are right about potential diff problems, especially if I drag race the damned thing. Actually, wheel hop and broken half shafts are the true gremlin I'd have to deal with.

But my intentions are purely innocent though. It'll be my daily driver, just as the car is right now.

I just put a set of CalTrac traction bars on my Mega Cab Dodge and they work great. Got rid of all the wheel hop I had.

I had a really bad wheel hop issue until I got me a set of 54" JLP longbars, the only real downside is the ground clearance, they scrape over everything!

didn;t they beef up the IRS setup in '01? I seem to remember the '98 and '99 cobras having issues with them, but bigger shafts and more splines for the '01+

Ive personly seen 2 terminator cobras with shattered IRS housings, its not the shafts but the actual pumpkin that explodes.

Actually, Cobras did not come with IRS until '99. The '99-'01 Cobra center sections had 29 spline diffs whereas the '03-'04 diffs have accept a 31 spline C/V joint.
Axle hop, as it is termed, actually refers to bind up of the short/long arm suspension that the IRS knuckles ride on. The compliant rubber bushings on both the inboard and outboard ends of the SLA allow for to much bind under heavy axle and suspension load translating into wheel hop under heavy acceleration. The solution to this problem is harder bushings at both ends of the SLA suspension (Delrin, for example) and poly bushings in the IRS subframe mounts amongst other bolt on/weld on fixes.

You saw this happen at the dragstrip under high traction conditions, right?
The IRS center section is all aluminum, which explains their common failure.

That is too sexy. So much so that I think I need to run to the bathroom and rub one out. Jesus.
