CRE500 and CR480 (Road bike) Australia

Hi,

Was told this is the place for the best tech info on the big bore CR's.

I have a 2001 CRE500 that is parked under a cover as a collectable. Thats one of the 250 made by Honda Australia with compliance for road rego.
I also have a VF1000R built by HMR in QLD its a one off road bike. I have about a dozen paddock bikes and hacks that I use most often.

My new toy is a 1982 CR480 that was turned into a road track race bike, that I now want to get registered.

My plan is to cut in a frame (with VIN and compliance plate) from a complainced big bore dirt bike. I am working with an engineer to get it signed off as roadworthy.

My burning question is around the charging stator for the CRE500. Will it fit into the CR480? are the bottom ends the same? or will I need to use a rechargeable battery and LEDs for blinkers and headlights?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks Josh. I didnt build it, I got it as you see it.

But I do look after it. Its a blast to ride with the weird V4 noise but it is heavy and not as fast as a new bike. That said it corners well for such a big bike.

Whats up with the shovel head?

Shovel head = way of standing the bikes up closer to center of gravity rather than keeled over.

I know where you're at w/the lighting system.

Instead of jacking w/the tuna can ignition, I decided to just install a rechargeable NiMeh battery and 100% LED lighting.
It passed the state inspection w/flying colors.....lights, mirrors and street legal rubber.
Your road/track 480 looks oddly cool.

I've always been a fan of the VF1000.
Old school looks that reminds me of Freddie Spencer's racing days.

Gotta love that hot-rod V4 exhaust note and who can miss the sound of the gear driven cams.
I have a VFR750, which isn't a rocketship, but it sounds good, runs decent and handles well.
I'm a fan of the single sided swinger myself.

Cool bikes man.

Thanks man.
I only made minimal changes....and didn't hack on anything.

Since I have the 500 on the road, I've only ridden the 480 a few times....for short bursts.
I have thoughts of turning it back into its former MX status (it's not a friendly streeter).
There's an open track not far from here that looks like a fun place for some good blasting...... wonder what the punk CRF riders would think of the old pinger's roosting abilities.
