oh, and I should probably ad that has been hammered on for 3 years without even being opened up. hundreds of hours and I think he checked the valves twice and changed the oil regularly.
I'm gonna wait for a few more votes to disclose what really happened

Justin, Jason and I ride nearly every weekend... just yesterday we probably rode for a solid 5 hours... do the math over 3 years and a not to mention a whole crap load of full weekend trips and dumont rides
I honestly wouldnt be surprised if the bike had 400 hours on it, but he doesn't have a hour meter, so we'll never know.

The fact that he posted this up and gave us worse-case scenario options probably is closing in on the fact that something stupid and cheap broke.

He has no reason to tell us that it grenaded, because that will only get him more flogging for going to the 4 stroke in the first place.

lemme guess, the master link broke?

The kick starter/oil pump drive gear (the small one that gets pressed in the back of the basket) is LOOSE. It will slide back and forth in the basket splines about 1 mm or so. I think this has allowed the basket to beat on the shaft and caused the failure. I will be calling Hinson tomorrow to see what they say...(its only a matter of MONTHS old)
