So, today i put the new hotrod kit on the scale, VS a oem rod kit
The hotrod is identical on the recipricating end
the hotrod was 2thenths of a gram heavier on the rotating end
BUT the smaller bore at the rotating end made the hotrod pin/bearing and washer assembly 13grams lighter than OEM

So you use HotRod kits RM? I've heard allot of people say they refuse to use them? Only of forums by the way......

A rod was available at a decent price, and in the interest of what its like I got one, size is excellent btw, unlike the other stories I've heard.
The crank I used in my af has a hotrod aswell.
If I was in the situation to not have as many engines of my own, I wouldn't be into "testing" as much stuff and I'd go with a new OEM crank assembly. Right now if I have engine trouble I'll have a low hour engine run and ready under the bench, and if I'm too lazy to change it that day I'll just take a different bike.

I doubt Hotrods makes a bad product, they have been around awhile, and in the engine world, crappy products dont stick around long. maybe crappy, cheap products for the budget idiot, but crappy expensive stuff definitely wouldnt be.

hotrods are cool. i have no scientific proof their any better than stock but ive used them with no troubles. they are made in taiwan but i think their qaulity control is fine from what ive seen. i suppose they might have a bad batch come out once in a while but i dont know.

Jerry Hall told be for every 10 he buys, about 3 are useable. The rest he sends back. The big ends are almost always too big.
Guess when the other 7 end up?
HotRods suck.
OEM is the way to go.

The Wiseco cranks look better than Hot Rods and we move a ton of each. There wasnt a Wiseco Kit when I built the crf250 so I used Hot Rods. I have a Hot Rod in my cr500 for the last 5 years, no probs yet...

I replaced the 12 year old OEM crank in my YZ with a Hot Rods, I had my crank rebuilt by a reputable guy in Concord that builds cart motors, he didnt say one bad thing about my crank...... He was also willing to help me re install my bottom end for free. Cool guy

Shoot my 500 has never been opened well except for the clutch, the sstock aluminum plates granaded, everything else still looks brand new, theres no doubt that honda builds quality motor parts

i've got the cuz watching for a frame while he's south
there was a nice looking kx500 in winnipeg last fall that was a little more than i wanted to spend to hack it up.
I'd like to do one just to see what the big hype is.
currently prepping my '88 500 to be sold and am going to watch for the right kx to come along.
the garage is kinda turning into a gen3 honda stable tho.

check your pm's!
I am looking for a chasis, or entire bike if you want to sell one.
There are a few sweet KX500's for sale here now, 2 are like new but they are firm at $4000, used decent ones for $2800, and a kx500 engine for $1000, but its been sleeved.
The KX is a nice engine but the rest of the bike is crap.
