Fork Fitment

Post by CR500PHIL »

Does anyone know if the tree and forks from a 1989 CR500 will fit a 1997 CR500 frame? Likewise will the forks themselves from a 1989 CR500 fit the tree from a 1997 or so CR 500? What years were the changes in the forks made?

1994 or 95 is when they switched from Showa to KYB if I'm not mistaken.
The 89 forks suck balls. I had to get mine revalved before I could stand to ride it in the woods. I believe I would stick with the stock forks or get a newer set from a 450 or something.

And I am not 100% sure, but I don't believe that the 89 steering stem is the same diameter as a newer model.

I have no stock forks - this is a project - from parts and money is scarce thanks to taxman so I am just wondering how to get this bike put together from whatever comes available.

If you have the forks with triples, it will all bolt into the newer frame. You'll have to use a 94 or older caliper.

95 forks were their own thing. Triples are specific to it.

96-01 forks are all the same. 95-01 use the same brakes.

Someone correct me if messed something up here.
