heres a clutch cover i used the vht caliper paint on, and bare glass blasted cases, the pictures dont look as good as it does by eye

I can't see a difference.

I can....theres a shit load more metalic on the cover then can be seen on the blasted one.
I'm trying to get some VHT caliper silver as we speak.

Too good of a camera, a cellphone pic show the difference better

and apparently i needed a calculator for each hand by the looks of that picture

Roostius, I know VHT caliper paint is the paint, I'm looking at the VHT website right now and the only silver is the cast aluminum, I assume this is the color you have?

do you clear coat the cases as well or does this paint have a little sheen to it. I would rather have a satin sheen if possible.

I was reading about this paint, do you cure the paint at 200 degrees for 20 minutes like it says to do?

I'm going back and forth on powder coating or this. A can or two of paint will be a bunch cheaper but I dune ride only and I'm wondering if the sand hitting the front of the cases from the front wheel will wear this stuff off quickly. My motor is black (93) but after looking at the silver motors, I think I will do all silver, it looks better.

I didnt bake it, it sparays on and leaves a rough kinda finish, actually it feels like little beads on it so i wipe em off by hand.
i'm not afraid of it flaking off (the reason you bake it) just the solvent resistant feature got me in.
i like the black, but the silver downst show as bad when the rocks blow it off, and it'll happen no matter what you do.

its not as dull as a flat silver, but not as candy looking as the oem honda stuff

I used some duplicolor engine enamel in "aluminum" on my '86 cases way back and they looked tits until the first time I drained the float bowl and the paint ran right off the motor and onto the frame.

i've dumped the bowl nut and changed pilots, used brake clearner and not washed it off, seems to be good stuff

POR-15 for the win...shits as strong as powder coat, if not stronger...solvent cannot TOUCH it once its cured. In fact it takes a special solvent to remove it BEFORE it cures, but once cured, no chemical will touch it (anything that you would ever put on or near your bike) I havnt tested Air Craft stripper, but that shit will even remove powder coat if I remember right...

I would like to get the crankcase halves painted the same color as the clutch cover and right side crankcase cover, with the same paint Honda uses.
I think that should look very cool, can the Honda paint be bought from anywhere?

Not that I have even seen...remember anything that sprays out of a rattle can (solvent based, instead of catalyst) will be susceptible to solvents...

Thats why I would like to use the exact same stuff Honda did, it doesn't seem to be worried by much?

The production stuff the OEMs use is often times a "dip" that gets baked on afterwards. Its like a liquid carrier "powder coat" that is simpler/cheaper that a true electro-static applied powder coat. Even when its sprayed on its baked afterwards and is always at the very least a catalyst type resin coating. If you went to an automotive paint supplier and purchased a polyurethane high temp paint or engine enamel you would be very happy and they could easily match the color...

So that type of shit would be as good as the Honda stuff?

I think it would be close enough for you to be happy, I havnt painted cars/street bikes in many years but they had pretty fancy shit back then, but I still stick to POR-15 its the toughest shit ive ever used. I did my steelie frame in it and it looks tits 5 years and BOOKOO gas, carb/brake cleaner, mineral spirits, later...

Its cyanoacrylate (super glue) based, so no solvents or catalyst to weaken it and more moisture its exposed to the stronger it gets...but you wont get the same exact color...

It's not fun, just afforable thats all.

I never thought about the POR-15 but that's a great idea. Went to the website, which one did you use, the stuff for engines (engine enamel) or the straight POR-15? Looks like they have a satin black regular POR-15 that would probably look good and you can thin it down to spray it.

Might have to try that.

I used standard black por-15 first than went over it with "chassis black" which is a satin metallic perfect match of GM frame paint, since the regular stuff is UV sensitive...it looks TITS!

I had some of the bare frame after bead blast and after each coat, but im unable to find them. The bike is all together right now so you cant see a whole lot but I could snap a few if you like...
