87 needs new shock?

Will any other yaer rear shock work on my 87 other than a 88? Say something like a 89 or 90.

I'm pretty sure that the transition from 88 to 89 are different animals. 89 and up were very similar less the subframe/seat/airbox on 91's and up. And what the engines were made of.

86 can work, but was setup shorter

I might have an 87' 250 shock ?
