Most are running a 6 or 7. A bigger number is leaner, but the cutaway is larger.

the slide cut away regulates the amount of air drawn over the needle jet at about 1/4 throttle. If you ride a lot at partial throttle openings like I do (semi tight woods) it does have some effect. If you whack the throttle open most of the time you probably wouldn't notice much. My gut tells me a 6.0 would work a little better for me but its not 50 bucks worth of better.

Ill probably try a 7 slide since i ride 5000 to 8000ft in the tight trees and high desert. I put a 42 pilot droped the needle all the way down and it seems to run better on the bench but i have not riden it yet. Will take out this afternoon when it warms up.
