hi all,my cr 500 has standard carb, :roll: and was woundering on base setting ie,how many turns out [from stop] ,it has had a lot of porting work done,thanks

Look above your post at the section of threads with "Sticky" before them. One of them is "Tuning and Jetting Primer" it's worth a read.

A good rule of thumb is to start in the 1.5-2.0 turns out range. Then you can adjust when warm to see which setting gives the highest idle and/or you can test ride and see which setting gives you most immediate response when cracking the throttle open. If you end up > 2 turns out you need the next smaller pilot, if you end up <1.0 you might consider the next larger pilot.

If its a brand new motor, turn it .5 turns out.

Who cares if it idles properly, you want it very rich while it breaks in for the first few minutes.

I'd leave the choke on too....
