Need to replace my back tire and have thrown around swapping out the "Bridgestone Ultra Heavy Duty" tubes for a lighter set. I do my own tire changes and I like the thick tubes for that, but feel I may be able to shave a couple pounds overall dropping the tractor tubes

Anyone know the weight differences between the UHD and standard tubes?

What about a good tube brand that will hold up well?

better idea, put a teraflex on, ride it for a weekend, then go to any other tire and it'll feel ultralight

I have no clue, but shaving weight off any where is gonna help. I do know that the tubes are so thick the are almost as heavy as the tire

Would love a tubeless option, but 20mm triples and new steering head bearings come first! It finally hit 30's for highs here in Iowa land, so I am parking it and doing a winter tear down to go over the chassis and hit what needs to upgrade before spring.

tubliss all the way. I'm in the process of switching over. I will have a lot of extra tubes.

im with ya.
i threw out all my hd tubes and put the lightest ones in i could find. they make a huge difference i think. a front or rear tyre for example weighs about 3.5-4 kg. i had a old front hd tube that weighed almost 2 kgs. i replaced it with a standard tube that weighed 600g. and i notice it everywhere.corners,wheelies,acceleration,jumps.it only costs $20 and takes 30mins of your time,give it a go.
new hd tubes are about 1.5 kg. but fuck it, if you can save 1 kg of rotating mass, then do it.
just be carefull not to pinch the tube if your doin it yourself.
i only weigh 82 kgs, and im always throwing the bike around. people weighing over 100kg prob wouldn pick up on the weight difference. but the front wheel does come up noticably quicker.

if you are going to ride in areas with 3corner jacks or cowtrop, stick with the hd tubes.

from memory, i vee rubber hd front tube was 1.7kg.
a cheap brand front standard tube was 600g.
a old school hd front tube was 1.9kg

I don't think this is alot of help, but an OEM Honda rear tube for a 19" rim weighs 2lbs 11oz. This is the entire tube assembly (rim strip, bead lock etc).


TuBliss rear in comparison is 1lb 10oz.
